Great Wall Motors has added a new range topper to its Cannon ute lineup. The Cannon-XSR dual cab ute adds a number of key features to boost off-road design and functionality. CHINESE CHECKERS – THE PLAYERS AND STAYERS

It’s been more than a decade since the launch of the first Chinese-branded car in Australia. That vehicle was of course the first Great Wall ute way back in 2009, pitched at bang-for-your-buck tradies. Since then, a number of Chinese brands have come and gone, but three manufacturers stand out as the stickarounds. They are the aforementioned Great Wall, as well as LDV which launched here in 2014 and MG which joined the fray quite late in proceedings in 2017. Last year 1,049,831 new vehicles were sold in Australia. With… Read more

RUGGED TANK MONEY IN THE BANK

It was originally sold under the Wey premium brand as the Wey Tank 300. Great Wall is apparently planning to turn Tank into a standalone brand with other off- roaders to follow. The Tank 300 Hybrid is a real 4×4 powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain, together with a 9-speed auto — reportedly it puts out a combined output… Read more

HAVAL H6 HYBRID ULTRA

Five years ago I wrote that the Haval H6 was the best Chinese-built cat that I had driven so far. Designed by Frenchman Pierre Leclercq, who penned BMW’s X6 the mid-sized SUV impressed with its contemporary muscular design, 2.0-litre turbo, twin-clutch auto and excellent fit and finish. It had the performance to match too, remaining flat with plenty of grip in corners. With some work it had the potential to do big things for the company which was then a new player. So, I was super excited to finally catch… Read more
