MAZDA3 SEDAN

Mazda3 has been on sale here for almost 20 years on the Australian market. Indeed, you can make that 45 years if you include the 323 that preceded. The ‘3’ has been a consistently high seller for most of its life often contesting the top spots in both its small-medium segment as well as overall sales against perennial rivals like Toyota Corolla, Kia Cerato, Nissan Pulsar and Hyundai i30. The latest, fourth generation, Mazda3 arrived here in February 2019 year in five-door hatchback form with the four-door sedan joining it… Read more

PEUGEOT 2008 GT ROAD TEST

In the absence of the 208 hatch, the 2008 has become by default the baby of the Peugeot range. But it’s a baby that the French company can justifiably be proud of, at once stylish, fun to drive and technologically advanced. Even better, it uses very little fuel. What’s not to like? Read on. STYLING The 2008 is a genuine work of automotive art. The detail that has gone into the design is amazing with a black roof, concave radiator grille, sculpted front fascia and sharp plunging LED lights. Look… Read more

MAZDA CX-60 G40E AZAMI HYBRID

The Mazda lineup is becoming increasingly difficult to understand. Once upon a time there was the Mazda2, Mazda3, and Mazda6 and it was easy to follow the progression (not forgetting the MX-5 and RX-8 sports cars). Then along came the SUVs, denoted by a CX in front of the number — CX-3, CX-5, CX-8 and CX-9. All good so far, except perhaps for CX-3 which actually sits on the same platform as Mazda2, making it smaller than its name might suggest. More recently the CX-30 and MX-30 were added, including… Read more

THERE’S AN AURA AROUND GWM ORA

Every now and then we get into a car that seems to grab attention wherever it goes. So it has been with the Great Wall Motors (GWM) Ora. Perhaps it was the combination of cute styling, a standout powder blue finish and then ew Ora badge that looks much like an exclamation mark. It drew comparisons with the New Beetle and old Nissan Micra and had us fielding questions throughout the week. Ora is GWM’s first EV and joins the growing list of affordable fully-electric compact vehicles to come out… Read more

CX-60 REWRITES THE RULEBOOK FOR MAZDA SUVS

It appears the CX-60 has inveigled its way into the Mazda sports utility vehicle family with the bearing of an imperious European aristocrat. Indeed, an industry specialist who deals with vehicle brands daily says, at first sight, the CX-60 reminded him a lot of a Jaguar. Mazda makes no bones about taking the Yellow Brick Road to a spot ‘over the rainbow’ inhabited by the best mid-size SUVs around and the CX-60 debuts with three sophisticated new powertrains – inline-six turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, in mild hybrid guise, plus… Read more

KIA TO FRESHEN UP ITS CUTE PICANTO HATCH

Kia has provided details of a refreshed version of its Picanto compact hatchback with styling changes, safety improvements and advanced technology. Although Picanto had been on sale overseas since 2003 it took until the release of its third-generation model in 2017 for it to go on sale here. Despite early concerns that it could be too small for Australian buyer preferences it has proved to be a very popular addition to the booming Kia fleet with a clear sales focus on younger drivers. The MY2024 Picanto is a second upgrade… Read more

KIA EV6 GT AWD DUAL MOTOR

Kia’s EV6 GT is World Performance Car of the Year, who can argue with that? To be eligible a car must be produced in volumes of at least 1000 units/year, must be overtly performance-focused in overall character and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets during the qualifying period. And with two electric motors and a seriously impressive 430kW of power and 740Nm of torque, not to mention a 0-100-km/h time of just 3.5 seconds, EV6 GT certainly meets the requirements. STYLING The GT sits 5mm lower, with… Read more

MAZDA2 COMES OF AGE WITH REFRESHED DESIGN

The smallest vehicle in the Mazda range, the Mazda2 will celebrate its 21st year on the Australian market this year with an extensive upgrade. Up front, the fascia has been given a new black or body colour grille, while the addition of a sleeker bumper design creates a streamlined new look. All Mazda2 hatchbacks also sport an asymmetrically placed colour accent on the front grille and rear bumper. Hatchback variants, as well as the top-of-the-line GT sedan, are treated to a redesigned rear bumper, which accentuates the two body styles’… Read more

PEUGEOT 308 GT PREMIUM STATION WAGON

Peugeot has an extremely long history of building vehicles, one that dates back more than 130 years. In 1889 Armand Peugeot built a steam-powered three-wheeled vehicle. Only four were sold. The next year he designed a more conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine and four wheels. Peugeot has expanded globally over the years and today ranks as one of the world’s largest car makers. This week’s road test is on the new generation Peugeot 308 GT Premium station wagon. STYLING It’s French so there’s little doubt it has plenty… Read more
