LEXUS UX 300H REVIEW

The Lexus UX range of compact SUVs has been on sale in Australia since 2019, originally as the UX 250 with the choice of petrol or hybrid powertrains. A fully electric variant was added in 2021 with the current UX 300 replacing the UX 250 and dropping the petrol option. The UX 300e was discontinued earlier this year. How time flies . . .not! It’s been a full four years since the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series had the rule run over it by the maker. The last upheaval to the LC 300, which first made landfall Down Under in the Snowy River Scheme more than half a century ago, was in 2021. Tank, in all its connotations, seems a strange name for a peacetime passenger vehicle. Maybe it’s lost something in translation from its native Chinese? Be that as it may, the maker Great Wall Motors as seen fit thus to designate its ‘300’ and ‘500’ SUVs. The new Tank 300 is the third of the 300s and the first pure petrol model. The Toyota LandCruiser dates back to the days when such vehicles were called wagons – none of this sports utility vehicle nonsense. Unfortunately, they behaved as though they, at worst, had wooden wheels with iron rims; at best, solid rubber tyres.
