LEXUS ADDS FULLY-FLEDGED ELECTRIC MODEL

The fully electric Lexus RZ has gone on sale – it’s a version of the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra clones. RZ is the one with the optional monitor that stops the car and calls emergency services if the driver is drowsy or looking sideways. That’s if it determines that the driver’s posture is severely compromised and that it is difficult for the driver to continue. Yeah, that Lexus. Can’t see too many customers picking up the tab for that one. RZ is the first EV to come from the… Read more

LEXUS LX 600 SPORTS LUXURY

The LX is the Lexus equivalent of the big Land Cruiser 300 Series, with the emphasis here on big. It’s a prodigious machine capable of taking you places you never dreamed possible, but in reality, it will probably never be used for this purpose. With a 3.5 tonne towing capacity, it’s more likely that the LX will find duty as a tow vehicle, with a boat or horse float on the back. Inside, Lexus lays it on thick. STYLING LX, Sports Luxury and Ultra Luxury versions feature a brushed chrome… Read more

TAKE TWO FOR LEXUS LUXURY PEOPLE MOVER

Lexus is chasing hire car operators with the launch of the new upmarket LM hybrid- powered people mover. The second-generation LM (short for luxury mover) has been unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai motor show. Sharing a platform with the Toyota Camry, Kluger and RAV4, as well as three current Lexus models, it looks much like a Tarago behind the Lexus spindle grille. The new-generation model has been completely redesigned and will be launched in more than 60 countries. Lexus designers apparently adopted the theme “Dignified Elegance” when crafting the new… Read more

INTRODUCING LEXUS SUV LUXURY DOWN THE HYBRID HIGH STREET

Lexus, through its close family links to Toyota, has form when it comes to the electrification of fossil fuel-powered vehicles. More than 20 years ago Toyota set its cap to petrol / electric hybrids when it put out the Prius. The sedan’s asymmetric hybrid fuel saving system became the mainstay of the automobile maker’s electric vehicles, even becoming the powerplant of choice for taxis around the world. Needless to say, this did not go unnoticed with Toyota’s luxe auto partner Lexus plugging in to the development for its range of… Read more

LEXUS ES250 F SPORT

Before I launch into our review of the Lexus ES250 F Sport, I’d like to share a short anecdote about picking up the car. Often when I call into a showroom for a press car someone says: “It is not quite ready yet, would you like a coffee, tea or a cool drink while you’re waiting?”. I reply: “A white-coffee please and a couple of Tim Tams.” They laugh and say: “Sorry our budget doesn’t run to Tim Tams.” However, when I asked for Tim Tams at Lexus of Southport… Read more

LEXUS IS 2013 – 2021

Lexus IS is a relatively minor player in the Lexus range of upmarket cars. It can be an excellent used car buy, particularly if it has been maintained by the book and driven sensibly – many are. Quite a few used ones are sold by Lexus dealers which may make them more expensive, but it’s usually worth any added cost as the dealers will pick and choose which ones they keep, and which ones they move onto other car yards. Having been relatively sedate in their shape for many years… Read more

ELECTRIC RZ 450E BREAKS NEW GROUND FOR LEXUS

Lexus has revealed its first fully electric, dedicated battery electric model the RZ 450e. Due here next year, the RZ is a clean-sheet design that sits on the e-TNGA platform that is shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. It’s designed specifically for EVs, providing space for the batteries and motor to be placed low to the ground for optimal weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. Lexus is claiming a range of about 450km, but it doesn’t say which standard this is under NEDC or the more… Read more

LEXUS GS 2012 – 2020

Lexus GS is an upmarket Japanese sedan. In what was a bold marketing move it’s aimed at Australian buyers who had previously bought sedans from Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes. In this Used Car Checkout we look at the fourth generation Lexus GS models that went on sale here midway through 2012. Build quality of the Lexus GS is high, even better than the already very good Toyota models. This has been a strong selling point of Lexus and we have spoken to many owners of the GS and other… Read more

LEXUS ES300h SPORTS LUXURY

The ES300 is one of just two sedans that Lexus continues to sell. A four-door sedan, it’s based on the same platform as the Toyota Camry, but you’d never know. This one has a hybrid under the bonnet. It comes with power-operated everything and a back seat that would make Emirates first class proud. STYLING Think sporty but with chrome bits. Lexus expects 85 per cent of customers will opt for the hybrid. Leather-accented upholstery, bamboo trim inlays, tri-zone climate control with Nanoe X, heated steering wheel, power adjust steering,… Read more
