MITSUBISHI PAJERO 2008 – 2018

2008 Mitsubishi Pajero

Mitsubishi Pajero is a genuine SUV, not a passenger station wagon with a tough looking body as is increasingly the way these days. Though it began its life downunder as a body-on-chassis 4WD, it became a monocoque for improved ride and comfort in 2000. Good engineering meant the post-2000 models retained similar strength to the chassis models. All have a low-range case for tough, slow conditions. We are considering the Pajeros from a major refresh in late 2007 which are classed as being MY2008. Mitsubishi’s sophisticated Super Select drivetrain permits… Read more

JAGUAR F-TYPE REVIEW

The words “Jaguar” and “sport” have gone hand and hand from the earliest days of the British marque since its inception in 1935. Some are saloons, others are wagons, even SUVs – but this week we’ve enjoyed being behind the wheel of the purest of them all the F-Type. Jaguar F-Type is made almost entirely from aluminium to keep its weight down. This material isn’t easy to work with, but Jaguar has been using it for many years now and arguably does it better than any other automotive company. STYLING… Read more

It adopted the BMW ConnectedDrive system, which combines numerous digital features that provide drivers access to a suite of constantly updated services and apps, as the platform to deliver the message via the vehicles’ centre-mounted display screens. 2020 MAZDA6 SPORT WAGON REVIEW

Australians have loved station wagon for many decades. Our mobile lifestyles mean we like to carry bulky items, either on holiday trips or to move house from one place to another. These days traditional station wagons have largely been replaced by SUVs and 4WDs on many people’s shopping lists, but there are still those who prefer lower, more stylish wagons that give sedan-like comfort. Mazda may have what is generally the biggest selling SUV in Australia in the CX-5, but still offers a conventional wagon in the form of the… Read more

FRANKLIN AIRCOOLED

1912 Franklin Aircooled

The Franklin Company of America was a firm believer in the merits of air-cooled engines. It once conducted a stunt drive from Walla Walla, in Washington, to San Francisco, California, in bottom gear to prove that the engine would not over-heat. After building a series of successful four cylinder models, Franklin introduced a six in 1905. For many years both fours and sixes were offered. This 1912 six has a 6.0-litre engine rated at 38.4 hp and was capable of 100 km/h (62 mph). The engine has seven main bearings…. Read more

HYUNDAI i40 2011 – 2018

2011 Hyundai i40

The Hyundai i40 was initially sold only as a station wagon, called the Tourer, when it arrived in Australia in October 2011. A four-door i40 sedan didn’t reach us until May 2012. With the Tourer, Hyundai Australia was chasing potential buyers of crossover SUVs, offering a more sensible vehicle than a high riding wagon. Hyundai wasn’t the first to discover that sensible wagons don’t sell particularly well. That’s because SUVs are often bought by people looking for the macho image, not commonsense transport. Keep in mind wagons such as the… Read more

PORSCHE 911 TURBO S

More powerful, dynamic and comfortable than ever before: the new 911 Turbo S sets new standards in many areas. That is also true for the adaptive aerodynamics, which Porsche has further enhanced in its flagship 911. Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) adapts the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle even more precisely to the driving situation, speed and selected driving mode. “No other sports car reacts to different situations with such aerodynamic flexibility as the new 911 Turbo S,” said Dr Thomas Wiegand, Head of Aerodynamics Development at Porsche. “We aerodynamic engineers… Read more
