SNEAK PEAK: NEW LAND ROVER DEFENDER

New Land Rover Defender was revealed in lightly-disguised prototype form on April 30th, exactly 71 years to the day since the original Land Rover was shown at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948. It probably won’t go on sale until the final quarter of 2019 but development testing is well under way, with the prototype fleet having just passed the 1.2 million kilometre mark. A camouflaged prototype model is preparing to embark on field-testing with global Land Rover conservation partner, Tusk Trust, a non-profit organisation. It will be put to… Read more

NEW LAND ROVER DISCOVERY IS THE BEST YET

Almost 70 years ago the first ever Land Rover vehicle, the Series I, was launched at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show an event that the company will commemorate with what it has dubbed World Land Rover Day on the 30th of April. The original Land Rover was inspired by the iconic Willys Jeep that had proven itself during the Second World War and like it, was rugged and simple in both its appearance and performance. The first Land Rover Discovery was released in 1989 to occupy the very large gap… Read more

HOT-ROD LAND ROVER DEFENDER

Land Rover has revealed a limited-edition high-performance version of the Defender to celebrate the Land Rover marque’s 70th anniversary in 2018. The somewhat improbable Defender Works V8 is the most powerful and fastest version that Land Rover has ever created. The 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 produces 400 horsepower (297 kW) of power that’s backed up by 515 Nm of torque. All four wheels are driven through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with sport mode. It will accelerate from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.6 seconds, while top speed… Read more

2018 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY HSE REVIEW

When the first Land Rover Discovery was launched in 1989 it was a cross between the tough, almost military, Defender and the upper-luxury Range Rover. Over the next 27 years and four generations it has matured into a more refined vehicle, but retained plenty of off-road capability. Now the fifth generation Land Rover Discovery is here and we’ve just spent an interesting week running in what will be typical conditions to most owners – suburban and city running as a family station wagon. Shopping, sitting in traffic and suchlike boring… Read more

NEW LAND ROVER DISCOVERY IS HERE

Land Rover chose one of Australia’s most iconic and recognisable locations, Uluru, to launch the latest version of its Discovery SUV. You will need to take our word for this because, in respect to the wishes of the traditional owners of the land, no photographs will be published showing the new bigger Disco in front of the old, and much, much bigger, red rock. When the first Land Rover Discovery was produced in 1989 it was a cross between the capable, but rather crude Defender and the luxurious Range Rover…. Read more

RANGE ROVER SVR HAS ASTONISHING GRIP – EVERYWHERE

The Range Rover Sport SVR is one of hottest, hardest accelerating 4WDs in the world. Its 405 kW 5.0-litre V8 can blast it from zero to 100 km/h in only 4.7 seconds. Far faster than a Brock Commodore or a Falcon GT of the 1980s could ever dream of. There’s no secret as to how the big Rangie can do this. Obviously driving all four wheels and all-but eliminating wheelspin off the line is a big factor. But the biggest reason for that rocketship time is advancements in technology, not… Read more

2016 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT REVIEW

The all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport is not a toy SUV masquerading as a 4WD, it is the real deal – an all-terrain vehicle from the old school. One that can be taken into tough off-road conditions where, believe it or not, even the rather crude Land Rover Series 1 would have struggled when it was launched 68 years ago. Yet the Discovery Sport will meet all the requirements of on-road comfort and handling today’s buyer demand. This seeming impossible combination of on-road sophistication and off-road ruggedness shows design expertise… Read more
