WAIT IS NEARLY OVER FOR THE NEW MITSUBISHI TRITON

Mitsubishi Australia has announced additional details of its new sixth-generation Triton
utility due to arrive here in February 2024.

Larger than before, the sixth generation Triton has been completely redesigned for the first
time in nine years and comes with a more powerful and cleaner engine, a new ladder
frame, upgraded interior and extra tech and safety feature.

Not surprisingly, these improvements come at a cost with price rises of between $3250
and $7600 before on-road costs.

As before there are four equipment levels: GLX, GLX+, GLS and GSR available initially
with Club Cab and Double Cab utility bodies. Cab chassis versions, including with a single
cab, will follow.

The previous 2.4-litre single turbo diesel engine has been replaced by a new twin-turbo
that increases power from 133 kW to 150 kW and torque from 430 Nm to 470 Nm.

At launch all variants will come with an updated six-speed automatic transmission although
Mitsubishi tells us that a six-speed manual will also be offered post-launch.

Another significant improvement that’s sure to attract new buyers is an increase in towing
capacity from the previous 3100 kg to 3500 kg.

The four-wheel drive system is the same Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD
systems.

Super Select 4WD-II is equipped with a centre torque sensing Limited Slip Differential
(LSD) that distributes driving force at a ratio of 40:60 front and rear, ensuring traction and
cornering performance.

Models equipped with the Super Select 4WD-II system can select from the four options of
2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time four-wheel drive), 4HLc (locked centre differential) and
4LLc (locked centre differential with lower gears), with seven drive modes including on-
road modes, an increase over the four off-road modes of the previous model.

Along with Normal mode that is available in all four-wheel drive modes, 2H offers Eco
mode for prioritisation of economy, 4H offers Gravel and Snow modes, 4HLc

Standard safety features include eight airbags, including one in the front centre position,
Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian and cycle detection, Adaptive Cruise Control,
Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping, Emergency Lane
Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera and
front and rear Cross Traffic Alert.

There’s also Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Multi Collision Brake, Traffic Sign Recognition,
Driver Attention Alert, Driver Monitor System, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Automatic High
Beam system, Trailer Stability Assist and Hill Start Assist.

GLX+ and higher models also get front fog lights, rear Automatic Rear Emergency braking
and a 360-degree camera.

GLS and GSR add Terrain Control and Hill Descent Control.

The entry-level GLX infotainment features include a new 9-inch display with wireless Apple
CarPlay, wired Android Auto, four-speaker audio, voice and steering wheel controls. There
USB-A and USB-C ports in both the front and rear.

There will be a range of seven external colours, the choice being dependent upon the
variant.
