Having finished the sales 2013 sales race in fourth place, just 6000 sales behind Mazda, Hyundai has fired the opening shots in the 2014 sales battle by introducing what it calls ‘Special Edition Trophy models’ to its range.
Hyundai i30 Trophy has 16-inch alloy wheels, electric folding side mirrors featuring, what the company describes as ‘leather appointed seats’ (with an explanation some of the material may be artificial), a premium steering wheel and gear knob.
Hyundai Elantra Trophy is the sedan version of the i30 hatchback and receives the same extras.
Hyundai Australia is proud of the fact that its European built ix35 is Australia’s number one selling small SUV. So the Trophy version of the ix35 has received more of a makeover than its smaller siblings. Hyundai ix35 is based on the ix35 Active and receives17-inch alloy wheels, a revised front bumper that’s unique to the model, front fog lamps, automatic headlamps, and electric folding mirrors.
Inside, the Hyundai ix35’s glove box is plumbed into the air conditioning system to help you look after those drinks in summer. For winter weather it has heating in both front and rear seats. There are ‘leather appointed seats’ (see the previous proviso), a premium steering wheel and gear knob. The inside rearview mirror has inset images from the rear camera when reverse gear is engaged.
Hyundai’s iCare program is impressive: the first service, at 1500 km, is free, there’s capped price service for the first three years and a five-year unlimited distance warranty. Roadside assist is free for the first year on new vehicles. There’s even an owners’ website, a magazine and customer events.
Globally, Hyundai has been the fastest growing mainstream automotive marque for almost ten years, and the Australian importer is obviously keen continue to play its part by significantly increasing its sales.
As mentioned, Hyundai was only a few thousand sales behind Mazda in Australia in 2013. Both brands are in highly competitive modes right now – and when that happens it’s the customers who win. If you’re considering a new car sometime in the next few months it may be worth visits to both these companies. And perhaps toss Toyota into the mix as well because its new Corolla is fresh from victory in the 2013 sales race and dealers are keen to keep in on top.
