RENAULT R16

The Renault 16 was built to a formula. It had a body of estate-car type, front wheel drive to concentrate large mechanical units away from the load carrying area and trailing arm independent rear suspension to encroach as little as possible on the low floor level which is possible with such a design. Flexibility was the keynote of the interior layout. Possible arrangements of the seating were astonishingly varied, thanks to a rear seat squab and cushion that could be moved, together or separately, into a variety of positions or… Read more

RENAULT KOLEOS SPECIAL EDITION

Renault has added a special edition of its Koleos SUV to gather further sales in what is arguably the hottest section of the car market in Australia. Koleos already accounts for almost one in three passenger vehicles by the French giant Downunder and obviously would like even more. The special edition, tagged Renault Koleos Initiale, sits above the toplne Intens variant. Priced at $49,490 driveaway, it come in an exclusive metallic paint colour, Black Amethyst, rides on 19 inch alloy wheels, has a panoramic sunroof, the cabin features leather trim… Read more

2018 RENAULT KOLEOS INTENS DIESEL

Last year was one of Renault’s most successful in Australia with sales here almost doubling those achieved in 2016. The Koleos, the French marque’s five-seater medium SUV, can claim much of the credit for the increased interest. The new diesel arrival is likely to bolster that further. It is $3500 more than its petrol stablemate, but still presents good value when compared to the equivalents offered by the segment leaders – Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan and the Nissan X-Trail. Renault Koleos has much in common with the Nissan X-Trail given… Read more

2018 RENAULT KOLEOS INTENS TURBO-DIESEL

New Renault Koleos is significantly larger than the model it superseded in August 2016. Increases to cabin space make it well suited to families with children well into their teenage years. Luggage room has also benefited. The topline Renault Koleos Intens diesel 4WD we road tested had genuine leather trim, heated and ventilated front seats (Yippee! seat ventilation always saves the day in Queensland); ambient cabin lighting; an electric panoramic sunroof and a hands-free power tailgate. The Intens also has added safety features (more about this in the Safety segment… Read more

NEW RENAULT SEDAN FORSAKES BLOWTORCH FOR FIRESIDE COMFORT

Renault has created a modern dynasty of hot hatches on the back of a formidable Formula One motor racing record: think Megane and Clio. Now the French automotive giant has added to the Megane family Down Under with a wagon and sedan. In comparison to the performance-based Megane hatch, with which it was born and bred, the new sedan is a stylish, premium packaged, practical vehicle, which is, once the steepish initial outlay is overcome, economical to live with. It comes to Australia in two models – Zen and Intens… Read more

TRAFIC GOES LONG WAY TO TAKING ON FAMILY’S NEEDS

After 18 consecutive years as Europe’s number one van maker, it could have been hard to come up with something new. Renault has done just that, combining a people mover and van in one vehicle. At almost five-and-a-half metres, the long wheelbase twin turbo Trafic Crew people mover-cum-load carrier, with a second row of seats, retains a full four cubic metres of cargo capacity, more than one tonne of payload and the ability to tow up to two tonnes. The Trafic Crew is also available to special order with two… Read more

MAKER PUTS MORE INTO KANGOO

The little French van that can: Renault hopes so after giving the Kangoo a push along with more power under the bonnet of the light commercial vehicle. From the company that has been the maker of Europe’s number one van range 18 years in a row, a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine comes up with better performance and fuel economy than many larger naturally aspirated engines. The new engine puts out 84 kW at 4500 rpm, more than 1500 revs below the unit it replaces, while direct fuel injection into… Read more

RENAULT CLIO IS AFFORDABLE AND FUN

Although the streets of Australia’s major cities are becoming increasingly congested the demand for small cars such as this week’s review, Renault Clio, has steadily declined, a victim mainly of the growth in sales of compact SUVs. Despite this there is serious competition within the market segment led by Hyundai Accent, Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris. High comparative pricing meant that Renault Clio has barely registered on the sales radar in recent years. This is a great pity because this stylish little French car has plenty to offer. The current, fourth… Read more

2017 RENAULT CLIO REVIEW

The facelifted Renault Clio not only has a stronger look but also added features and – best of all – it’s prices have been trimmed by $2000. The range now starts at $15,990 for the Clio Life manual, and stretches up to a still pretty reasonable $22,990 for the Clio GT-Line and the Clio Intens, the latter two come only with automatic transmission. Note that on-road charges have to be factored in, but you still get a lot of French flair for a pretty modest outlay. As a sweetener to… Read more

RENAULT MEGANE SEDAN AND WAGON NOW IN AUSTRALIA

Renault is continuing its strong marketing push in Australia by adding sedan and station wagon variants of its Megane. The very stylish Megane hatchback has been a success downunder since its launch in October 2016 and the sedans and wagons have a fair bit of French flair in there rumps as well. However, buyers are tending to – somewhat illogically in our opinion – opt for SUVs these days and the new Renault wagon may struggle to sell in significant numbers. The sedan should make its niche for itself in… Read more
