CITROEN PICASSO LETS THE SUNSHINE IN

Citroen C4 Picasso isn’t an easy car to categorise. While strictly speaking it’s a five-door hatchback it comes with the option of seven seats so can be seen as a mini people mover but also has many of the qualities which attracts buyers to compact SUV crossovers. Where it does stand alone is in the amount of natural light provided inside the car through the combination of a huge windscreen and panoramic glass roof. The top of the windscreen continues back till it’s almost above the front seats while the… Read more

CITROEN TRACTION AVANT

1934 Citroen 7CV Traction Avant

Andre Citroen was born in 1878 and studied engineering at technical school. His first job was with the Mors company, a car manufacturer, where he used his engineering skills to increase the company’s annual car production rate tenfold. While holidaying in Poland Citroen noticed a type of wooden gear in use in a blacksmith’s shop. Having also an entrepreneurial attitude he recognised the potential of this gear design and arranged to buy the rights to manufacture them for sale. The chevron emblem of the Citroen badge is derived from these… Read more

CITROEN C4 CACTUS – VIVE LE DIFFERENCE

During our regular testing of new cars it’s surprisingly rare for a car to attract more than passing attention from the general public. Outside of supercars such as Ferrari and the like it generally only happens when so-called ‘retro’ cars emerge such as the New Beetle, Nuova Fiat 500 and Chrysler PT Cruiser. We’ve just spent a couple of weeks travelling around in the newly-released Citroen C4 Cactus and it has certainly turned plenty of heads. Aside from the predictable chuckle about the car’s name the biggest attraction were the… Read more

CITROEN’S PRICKLY PAIR DESIGNED TO GROW ON POINT OF DIFFERENCE

It’s hard to take seriously a car that’s named after a spiky plant that lives in desolate sun-scorched, rock-strewn deserts. There again, to exist in such a harsh and lifeless environment shows a degree of strength and the ability to adapt. Maybe this is what Citroen had in mind when it thought up the moniker ‘Cactus’ for its compact hatchback. The Citroen C4 Cactus comes in two Exclusive versions featuring extensive standard equipment and reasonable pricing – $26,990 for a turbocharged PureTech petrol manual and $29,990 for a semi-automatic diesel… Read more

ALL-NEW CITROEN C3

Following on from the unusual styling of the innovative Citroen Cactus, the French marque has revealed its all-new C3 model featuring Cactus-like styling. Instantly obvious are the Airbumps which protect the doors from minor to midrange damage. It’s not just the Airbumps that make new Citroen C3 a visual standout. As with the outgoing model it can be customised. Nine body colours (Banquise White, Perla Nera Black, Shark Grey, Aluminium Grey, Ruby Red, Almond Green, Cobalt Blue, Power Orange and Sand) and three roof colours (Opal White, Onyx Black, Aden… Read more

2016 CITROEN C4 CACTUS REVIEW

I’ve never started a road test before with the words, “If only”. But here goes: If only we had picked up the Citroen C4 Cactus 24 hours earlier as originally planned life would have been much simpler. During that period some fool bumped into the side of our test Lexus RX350 in a carpark and scarred two doors – in Aussie terms the doors were cactus. The Citroen Cactus would have given a Gallic shrug as its AirBumps absorbed the impact – and I wouldn’t have had to spend half… Read more

NEW DS 4 CROSSBACK LAUNCHED

DS Automobiles has launched a limited-run, just 25 vehicles, of the DS 4 Crossback range in Australia. Making it more of an SUV than the standard version, the DS 4 Crossback has a 30 millimetre higher ride height. It sits on 17-inch ‘Canberra’ alloy wheels (18-inch ‘Brisbane’ alloys are available as an option). It has revised suspension tune and is powered by a new Euro-6 compliant turbo-diesel engine through a new design of six-speed automatic developed in conjunction with Aisin. The DS 4 Crossback has black wheelarch trims, door mirror… Read more

CITROEN C4 TAKES THE HARD ROAD TO COMFORT AND ECONOMY

Ninety years ago, in 1925, a Citroen 5CV became the first vehicle to complete a full circuit of Australia. Almost a century later, Citroens are still going round: an upgrade of the Citroen C4 hatch is one of the French maker’s latest models to land in Australia. Thanks to the adoption of PSA Peugeot Citroen’s award winning PureTech, Euro 6, petrol turbo powerplant featuring stop / start technology, mated with the latest six-speed Aisin automatic transmission, the new C4 offers greater power and performance from less fuel. As a bonus… Read more

C4 CACTUS TAKES CITROEN BACK TO ITS INNOVATIVE BEST

Citroen is a carmaker that has traditionally stretched the envelope in terms of both design and technology. Sadly, in recent decades it’s taken a more mainstream approach so it’s great to be able to announce the arrival of the delightfully-different C4 Cactus SUV / hatchback crossover. Cactus has been on sale in Europe for nearly two years and with the compact SUV segment booming, Citroen Australia would have loved to have had it here earlier. Unfortunately delays in right-hand drive production and the lack of a top tether and child… Read more

DS 5 – EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN

The subject of this week’s road test review is the Citroen DS5. Actually, that’s not quite true because Citroen has decided to follow the direction taken by a number of other brands by creating a luxury sub-brand and calling it DS. In doing so Citroen has resurrected one of most recognisable of automotive names; the Citroen DS19, launched in 1955, was one of the most charismatic and influential cars of its era with its distinctive styling and revolutionary hydro-pneumatic suspension system. Although the name may be familiar the DS badge… Read more
