Pebble Beach, California, USA hosts an annual gathering of the most magnificent classic cars on the planet. The final event of this year’s Concours d’Elegance was the unveiling by Mercedes-Benz of its astonishingly beautiful concept car, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet.
Is this the most gorgeous car you’ve ever seen? That was the question that flashed around the world the moment the concept was unveiled.
A huge car – it’s almost six metres long and over two metres wide – the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a reminder of the glorious days of art deco design and the famed Riva powerboats. The extended, round “boat tail” is the biggest talking point.
The colour of the Vision 6 Cabriolet show car, “Nautical Blue Metallic” is magnificently complemented by quilted “Crystal White” nappa leather
Fascinatingly, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is an electric car. It uses four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors to give it all-wheel drive. A handy feature if you’re putting 550 kW (750 hp) to the ground to leap from zero to 100 km/h in under four seconds.
Will it be built and go on sale? That’s hard to predict at this early stage. But there are plenty of multi millionaires who want the latest and greatest in automotive design, and there’s every chance they are already saying, “Hmm…” to themselves.
