Heard the expression Keep It Simple Stupid or KISS for short?
It seems China’s plethora of car brands haven’t as they continue to divide and multiply, spreading like wildfire through the market place.
One of the largest, Chery, has just spawned another offshoot with the soon-to-arrive arrive, fully-electric Lepas L6 SUV, a new model as well as a new name for consumers to grapple with.
The name “Lepas” is reportedly a combination of the words ‘leap’ and ‘passion’ and the newcomer is set to join Jaecoo and Omada as well as the Chery brand itself in Australia.
Announced last September and largely forgotten, Lepas has been created primarily for export purposes, a vehicle for Chery’s plug-in hybrid and new energy products.
L6 is targeted at urban elites and families who value individuality, design and technology.
Based on the Chery Tiggo 7 and Jaecoo J7 the compact crossover will launch here in the fourth quarter of the year as part of the brand’s local expansion plans.
Powering the L6 is an electric drivetrain producing up to 160kW and 275Nm, delivering competitive performance for the segment alongside efficient energy management, with an estimated range of 450km.
Designed to combine contemporary styling, advanced technology and everyday practicality, L6 represents the next step in the Chery Group’s growing commitment to electrified mobility for Australian customers.
The mid-size electric SUV has been developed with a strong focus on design, intelligent connectivity and refined driving comfort, while also delivering the versatility expected by Australian families and lifestyle-focused buyers.
L6 features a sleek exterior design highlighted by slim LED lighting signatures and a strong, modern stance, while the interior adopts a minimalist “less is more” approach with a focus on premium materials, comfort and space.
Key features include a panoramic glass roof plus a spacious cabin designed to enhance both driver and passenger experience.
Additional Australian-market specifications, pricing and launch timing for the Lepas L6 will be announced closer to the vehicle’s local arrival.
“The Lepas L6 represents an exciting new chapter for our business and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to bringing innovative, technology-driven vehicles to Australian customers,” Lepas’ Lucas Harris said.
“As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow locally, the Lepas L6 will offer Australian buyers a compelling combination of sophisticated design, intelligent features and everyday usability within the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.”
