CUPRA Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD

Here’s something you don’t see very often, a new station wagon.

A what? A station wagon — the thing we drove before the advent of SUVs.

Part hot hatch. Part active lifestyle. The Cupra Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD has been confirmed for Australia.

Joining the refreshed Leon lineup introduced in late 2025, the Leon VZx Sportstourer completes the Australian wagon range alongside the existing Leon VZe Sportstourer plug-in hybrid and introduces all-wheel drive (AWD) to the Leon range.

Designed, developed and built in Barcelona, the new flagship variant combines genuine high-performance capability with the practicality and versatility that have long made performance wagons a favourite among driving enthusiasts.

At a time when high-performance wagons are becoming increasingly rare, the Leon VZx Sportstourer arrives as a celebration of a body style that continues to inspire a passionate and loyal following.

Delivering 245kW, all-wheel drive traction and advanced torque vectoring technology, it offers a compelling alternative for customers who want the practicality to support an active lifestyle without sacrificing driving enjoyment.

Powering the Leon VZx Sportstourer is the same high-performance drivetrain recently introduced in the new Formentor VZx.

A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine develops 245kW – a significant leap up from the 221kW within its VZx Hatch sibling.

Paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Cupra’s advanced all-wheel drive system, the Sportstourer presents a thrilling experience for all parties involved.

Performance is immediate and substantial. The Leon VZx Sportstourer accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds, placing it firmly among the fastest vehicles in the segment.

Beyond outright acceleration, the drivetrain adopts advanced rear torque splitting technology, allowing torque to be actively distributed between the rear wheels to maximise traction, agility, and driver engagement.

The system includes a dedicated drift mode, delivering a level of dynamic capability rarely seen in a vehicle that can also comfortably accommodate a family, sports equipment, or a weekend away.

The Leon VZx Sportstourer is also the only Leon variant available with all-wheel drive, reinforcing its position as the flagship performance model within the Leon range.

The exterior combines the updated Leon design language with exclusive VZx enhancements, including forged 19-inch Hailstorm alloy wheels shared with the Leon VZx Hatch and Formentor VZx.

Cross-drilled performance brakes provide increased stopping capability and visual presence, while the distinctive Cupra shark-nose front design, triangular lighting signature and illuminated rear logo create a bold road presence.

Inside, the Leon VZx Sportstourer blends premium appointments with everyday practicality. Leather-appointed upholstery, heated front seats with memory functionality, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), a power tailgate, and Cupra’s acclaimed Sennheiser premium audio system all feature as standard.

For customers seeking the ultimate Leon Sportstourer experience, the Extreme Package will be available from launch for peak performance.

Building on an already highly capable platform, the package introduces CUP Bucket front seats trimmed in Enceladus Grey Seaqual and Dinamica upholstery with carbon fibre shells, Matrix Ultra LED headlights, dark gloss exterior accents and upgraded performance hardware.

Most notably, the Leon VZx Sportstourer Extreme Package receives substantial Akebono six-piston front brakes, providing even greater braking performance and reinforcing the vehicle’s serious dynamic intent.

With generous cargo capacity, genuine five-seat accommodation, and the ability to tackle everything from the weekday commute to a winding mountain road with equal confidence, the Leon VZx Sportstourer represents an increasingly rare proposition.

Leon VZx Sportstourer (245kW AWD) is priced from $72,490 driveaway.
