PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN: ADVANCE DETAILS

Porsche released Australian details of the 718 Boxster roadster three months ago, though deliveries aren’t to start till mid 2016. Now the importer has given us details of the 718 Cayman hardtop coupe. In an interesting move the Cayman is priced below the Boxster. Something that hardly comes a surprise as ever other maker charges more for their open top versions; the 718 Cayman starts at $110,300, the 718 Cayman S from $140,600. On-roads have to be added. The 718 is named in recognition of the Porsche 718 sportscars that… Read more

STRONG EVOLUTION OF PORSCHE 911

It is almost 20 since Porsche purists raised their Pilseners all over the world and sadly declared that the Porsche 911 was dead. Killed by emissions ratings meant that cooling the flat-six engine purely by airflow was no longer possible. The finer control that water cooling offered meant that, despite attempts to the contrary by desperate engineers, water replaced air around the Porsche powerplant. Porsche engineers are smart guys and gals and switched their brains into lateral thinking mode. Realising that what the purists most wanted was the sound of… Read more

NEW PORSCHE 718 BOXSTER REVEALED

The new generation Porsche Boxster has a different name, revised styling and an all-new generation of flat-four engines that produce more power and torque, yet use less fuel than the outgoing flat-six units. The mid-engine Porsche roadsters are now called 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S, being named in recognition of the Porsche 718 sportscars that won numerous races during the 1950s and ‘60s, among them the legendary Targa Florio and Le Mans 24-hour. The number 718 also ties in with the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. All the major… Read more

PORSCHE BOXSTER, CAYMAN 1997 – 2015

2005 Porsche Boxster

Porsche Boxster roadster and Cayman coupe are the same vehicle apart from the folding roof in the former and the fixed on in the latter. Cayman didn’t go on sale until 2006, nine years after Boxster. Interestingly, the Boxster and Cayman share quite a few of their front-end components with the Porsche 911. At the rear they are quite different machine visually, though there’s still a family resemblance. Boxster’s roof design is simply brilliant in that the roof acts as its own cover when the top is open. The roof… Read more

PORSCHE MISSION E: AN ELECTRIFYING FUTURE

“Racing improves the breed,” is one of the oldest sayings in automotive engineering. As far back as the 1890s cars were being raced to show them off to the public, and to improve their design, speed and toughness. Porsche has a long and glorious history in motorsport, particularly in long distance events like the Le Mans 24-Hour classic. Now the white hot pace of technology that’s essential in car racing has resulted in arguably the biggest surprise at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show – the unveiling of a Porsche pure-electric… Read more

PORSCHE 911: ALL-NEW ENGINES, REVISED STYLING

Porsche 911 has just been announced and the biggest change is the introduction of turbocharged engines in all models. This hardly comes as a surprise as the other German marques have all been gradually switching to turbo units to meet ever tightening emission regulations. At the same time the iconic shape of Porsche 911 has been given a mild revamp for 2016, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system has been upgraded. Though instantly recognisable as a Porsche 911 the Carrera has been visually modified. New headlights, with four-point daytime running… Read more

PORSCHE 911 C4 GTS: AFFORDABLE SUPERCAR

After spending a great week road testing a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS we have promoted it to the top of the list of the seemingly endless variety of models offered in the 911 range. Why? Because it works just as well as a daily driver as a weekend track car, has huge performance, makes the right noises if you select the Sport settings and looks just so right. Yet is reasonably priced for a supercar. Reasonably priced in that its rrp is just $284,100. Perhaps not in everyone’s price… Read more

CITROEN C4 PICASSO OOZES STYLE

Buyers looking for something that doesn’t follow convention and who appreciate a real touch of French flair should certainly have the latest Citroen C4 Picasso on their short (often very short) list of potential cars. Just what is the Citroen C4 Picasso? It’s hard to define, being a mixture of a tall hatchback and a people mover, with a touch of SUV thrown in for good measure. This is not the first Citroen that refuses to slot neatly into any category, nor will it be the last. We love the… Read more

2015 PORSCHE CAYENNE DIESEL S REVIEW

The Porsche Cayenne is a whopper. It’s a big, heavy SUV with tons of room for the family and a badge to keep the neighbours talking. It’s also got a planet-bending V8 diesel engine and an air-suspended chassis that has to be felt to be believed. VALUE The Cayenne Diesel S kicks off at a startlingly reasonable (hey, it’s all relative) $144,800. Perhaps against type, there’s a lot of stuff packed into the Cayenne and you could cheerfully go without ticking a single box on the breathtakingly long options list…. Read more

BLACK EDITION PORSCHE 911 AND BOXSTER

Porsche has announced Black Editions are on their way for the iconic 911 and its baby brother the Boxster. Unlike other marque’s so-called blacks which are available in a multitude of colours, the purists at Porsche are building theirs only with a black exterior. So, “Any colour you like, so long as it is black.” Sounds familiar? The Black Editions for MY16 are based on the 911 and Boxster GTS models introduced in the 2015 model year. Porsche 911 Black Edition is available is offered as a coupe and cabriolet,… Read more
