PEUGEOT 203

During World War II Peugeot had been planning a new post-war model, and was able to introduce the new 203 as early as the autumn of 1947. It was a sensationally modern car with a streamlined unitary body and a new four-cylinder 1290 cc engine. Although it would continue to be manufactured for many more years, its replacement had already appeared in 1955: the Peugeot 403. After sampling such unusually heady vintages you might think that the postwar 203 would seem distinctly vin ordinaire. Not so! While it is undoubtedly… Read more

PEUGEOT 202

In 1929 Peugeot introduced the nomenclature comprising a three-digit number with a central 0, rather than using a name when they launched the 201. In this trademark registered numbering system all numbers between 101 and 909 are covered with the first number representing the size of the car and the last number indicating its chronological position. You can imagine the red faces at Porsche when they applied to register their model 901 in 1963 and had to make a quick change and call it model 911. Although the Peugeot 202… Read more

Popular as a taxi, the 404 enjoyed a fine reputation for both durability and value. With a wheelbase of… Read more

PEUGEOT 205GTI

1984 Peugeot 205 GTI

With the introduction of the 205 Peugeot set itself the challenge of producing from scratch a small hatchback which would stand out in a crowd. Not only did they achieve this but they created one with such street cred that it became a cult car almost overnight. Such an achievement was quite remarkable. Introduced in 1983, a total of 2.74 million cars were produced during its production life. Most remarkable of all is that it was Peugeot that achieved this, not Volkswagen or arch rival Renault. Suddenly, it seemed, Peugeot… Read more
