Kia’s commitment to electric vehicles is set to continue with the first viewing of its
highly anticipated flagship large SUV, the EV9.
First shown as a concept at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show it featured three seating
rows, a solar panel built into the bonnet, pop-up steering wheel, 27-inch ultra-wide
infotainment display and potential driving range of nearly 500 kilometres. It will be
fascinating to see how many of these features are transferred into the production model
EV9.
The reveal takes the form of a teaser video, available to watch at Kia Worldwide YouTube
Channel. It shows a silhouette of the flagship SUV model, featuring prominent front and
sleek body surfaces. The striking lighting patterns created by the front and rear lamps
complete the EV9’s identity.
Like the smaller Kia EV6 which has been on sale here for 18 months, the EV9 is built upon
the company’s dedicated battery electric vehicle platform, Electric Global Modular Platform
(E-GMP).
The name, EV9, comes from Kia’s EV nomenclature, pairing the prefix ‘EV’ (electric
vehicle) with the number ‘9’ (nine), which represents the model’s segment among Kia’s
dedicated electric vehicle line-up.
Kia will fully reveal both the exterior and interior design in mid-March, and the product
information will be fully disclosed during the Kia EV9 World Premiere in late March with a
local launch in the third quarter of this year.
