BMW’S SPORTY NEW X4

BMW is about to launch yet another all-new model, the X4. A smaller brother to the BMW X6, it has been shown in Europe and will come to Australia in the final quarter of 2014. Using BMW’s new naming system, which gives even numbers to sports models, and where X signifies it’s a crossover between a car and an SUV, the X4 is largely based on the underpinnings of the BMW X3. Using the same powertrains and running gear modified to suit the lower ride height and centre of gravity… Read more

BMW’S NEW 2 SERIES

Prestige German car companies continue to introduce relatively low cost models, planning to sign up customers that will develop a lifelong loyalty to the brand and, hopefully, upgrade to expensive higher-profit models later. The latest automobile manufacturer to do this is BMW which has just released its first Series 2 coupe, which brings a new level of driving dynamics to the premium compact segment. With a heritage in the segment with the likes of the two-door 2002 turbo of the 1960s, and more recently the multi-award winning 135i Coupe, the… Read more

The BMW X5 has upped the challenge to rivals

Call it what you will: luxury four-wheel drive wagon;4×4; sports utility vehicle; or BMW’s own title of ‘sports activity vehicle’ SAV’, the BMW X5 continues to barge its way through the Australian market. When it premiered in 1999, the four-wheel driven BMW X5 was the the first vehicle of its kind according to the German company. However, Range Rover may argue it introduced a sports activity model 29 years previously, though it didn’t tag it as such. Now the third generation of the new X5 is about to land in… Read more

2013 BMW 3 GT REVIEW

Good to look at, great to drive, the all-new BMW 3 GT is also spacious and comfortable

In Europe the phrase ‘grand touring’, later shortened to GT, was coined in the 1930s to describe cars owned by wealthy people for fast point to point travel while cosseting their passengers in luxury. They generally also had good luggage space, but that wasn’t essential as the really wealthy could send vast amounts of their materiel ahead by truck or cheaper car. Though the all-new BMW 3 GT is loosely based on the 3 Series sedan, it is much larger inside and has legroom not far short of that in… Read more

The X5 sDrive 25d will hit the streets in March next year with a price tag of $82,900. 2013 BMW Z4 REVIEW

Pure roadster shape of the latest BMW Z4 works well with the top up - or down

BMW Z4 has one of the purest body shapes on the road whether it’s used as a closed coupe, or a top-down roadster in which to appreciate the joys of cruising in Australia. It has a very long bonnet, a short tail and you sit all the way back in the cabin. We love the shape and have just enjoyed a great week in our home territory on the Gold Coast. STYLING Changes to the body shape of the BMW Z4 in this midlife makeover are minimal, daytime running lights… Read more

BMW’S ALL-NEW 4 SERIES

BMW knows a thing or two about long-bonnet-short-tail design, just look at shape of its little Z4 roadster and big 6 Series coupe and cabriolet. So it’s great to see the same theme, albeit in a less extreme format than on the Z4, being used on the all-new BMW 4 Series coupe. A brief word about the ‘4’ before going into details. BMW has decided all its sporty models should have an even number in their title. So the 4 Series coupe is the replacement for the 3 Series coupe…. Read more

BMW 7 SERIES 2002 – 2013

2003 BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 Series is a large, prestigious German saloon aimed at travelling long distances while pampering its passengers with a smooth ride and near silent interior. It’s at its very best on motorways, though slightly out of place in Australia where our speed limits are set at low levels. Despite its size the BMW 7 Series is a real drivers’ cars, though, naturally, their greater mass makes them less nimble than their smaller brothers. Road grip is very high for such a big car. Steering is responsive and offers… Read more
