GENESIS G70 SHOOTING BRAKE IS RIGHT ON TARGET

Genesis introduced the G70 sedan in 2017. In the same year Kia launched the Stinger liftback. The two cars are or were essentially the same under the skin, employing the same platform and drivetrains. Genesis added the Shooting Brake in 2021, a posh English term for a station wagon that harks back to the horse and buggy days. Sadly, Kia dropped the Stinger in 2023, due to falling demand worldwide, it says. Targeted at the European market, the Shooting Brake remains a fascinating option, considering the overwhelming competition from SUVs…. Read more

HAPPY RETURN FOR GENESIS SUPER SEDAN

The gift that keeps on giving: due to an ‘unscheduled incident’ on a recent test car I was left with a gap on my normally crowded ‘dance card’. No sweat, said the Australian importer, why take a reprise with the Genesis G70? Even though I had spent time with the Sports Luxury Sedan earlier in the year, when the upgraded G70 had left a generally positive impression, a second bite of the luxury ‘fruit’ was eagerly accepted. The G70, which started as a mid-sized luxury sedan with a young and… Read more

GENESIS G70 3.3T

Although it’s been on sale in overseas markets since 2016 and in Australia since 2019, the Genesis brand remains largely unknown here. During our week-long road test of the Genesis G70 we regularly had to explain that it was the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai, akin the relationship between Lexus and Toyota. The name harks back to pre-automotive days and referred to horse-drawn carriages that were used for transporting… Read more

IT’S DOWN TO BUSINESS FOR GENESIS SUPER SEDAN

Genesis, the opening chapter of the Old Testament, and the titular luxury arm of Hyundai, share a couple of questions: where do they come from and who are they meant for? Answers were given to me by a local Genesis high-up when the South Korean automobile maker set up shop Down Under. He told of an owner of a top-shelf Mercedes-Benz, who did not want his pride and joy to face the day-to-day risks of city and suburban driving, so he settled for a top-notch Genesis for half the price,… Read more

GENESIS G70 3.3T SPORT

Genesis G70 is a rear-drive four-door sports sedan but it could be classed as a 2+2 because rear legroom is quite limited (especially with a tall driver). A $10,000 Luxury Pack was also fitted to our test car along with matte finish paint which adds another $2000 to the price, bringing the grand total to $87,876. The pack includes a 12.3-inch full screen instrument cluster with 3D function, head-up display, a 16-way adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, power-operated rear boot lid and premium… Read more
