MITSUBISHI ASX ES STREET

Mitsubishi ASX is the smallest vehicle in the company’s four-model SUV range beneath the Eclipse Cross, Outlander and Pajero Sport.   ASX (the acronym stands for Active Sports Crossover, not Australian Stock Exchange) has been around since 2010 and competes against a host of rivals in the small SUV category including Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, Kia Seltos, Subaru XV, Toyota C-HR  and the class sales leading MG ZS.   Despite being largely unchanged throughout the decade ASX has been a star performer for Mitsubishi thanks to a combination of… Read more

OUTLANDER PLUGS INTO FAMILY LIFE

The plug-in hybrid models have not been left behind in Mitsubishi’s latest upgrades to its Outlander SUV range, adding even more appeal to the company’s popular EVs. Plug-in hybrids have been around for years and offer a choice of full-on electric drive for short trips, with the complement of internal combustion power to avoid range anxiety on longer journeys. With totally electric powered vehicles rapidly advancing, the plug-in hybrid, led by the Outlander, is intent on making a stand for its own segment. With greater battery capacity (20kWh) and a… Read more

MITSUBISHI TRITON GLS 4X4 DUAL CAB UTE

Watching the Olympics, it’s all about who gets the gold. No one remembers anyone beyond the top three placings and so it goes with utes and the Australian new car market. Ranger is the gold medalist, with a clear lead, followed by Hilux with the silver and the D-Max with the bronze. Also-rans include the Mitsubishi Triton, back for a sixth crack at the record but still sitting a fair way back in fourth position out of medal contention. Although its redesigned front now carries the Mitsubishi name, it doesn’t… Read more

WAIT IS NEARLY OVER FOR THE NEW MITSUBISHI TRITON

Mitsubishi Australia has announced additional details of its new sixth-generation Triton utility due to arrive here in February 2024. Larger than before, the sixth generation Triton has been completely redesigned for the first time in nine years and comes with a more powerful and cleaner engine, a new ladder frame, upgraded interior and extra tech and safety feature. Not surprisingly, these improvements come at a cost with price rises of between $3250 and $7600 before on-road costs. As before there are four equipment levels: GLX, GLX+, GLS and GSR available… Read more

‘BLACK’ MAKES LIGHT WORK OF SUV CHALLENGE

The auto industry continues to be awash with gismos that are increasingly taking the ‘drive’ out of driver. Sports utility vehicles – especially all-wheel drives – are particularly subject to systems that butt in. Welcome to the no-nonsense world of the Outlander Black Edition. While the mid-size Mitsubishi petrol and petrol / electric hybrid SUV, for 2024, has been given a leg-up in equipment standards – plus price rises – the former LS Black Edition has been let loose from the pack to stand on its own. Not that there’s… Read more

ALL-NEW MITSUBISHI TRITON UNVEILED

Mitsubishi’s new Triton has broken cover in Thailand, a model crucial to the company’s future growth. Larger than before, the sixth generation Triton has been completely redesigned for the first time in nine years. It sits on a newly developed ladder frame that provides durability and reliability, with a newly developed engine that achieves both higher output and improved environmental performance. The newly developed 4N16 2.4-litre clean diesel comes in three different output specifications to meet different purposes: The high-output version is equipped with a new turbo charger and new… Read more

MITSUBISHI TRITON SPORT LIMITED EDITION

The latest Mitsubishi Triton acquires some fashionable black bits. There’s been a few along the way and this probably won’t be the last. Mitsubishi has become the master of squeezing the most out of its long-serving model lines with minor upgrades and special editions. The current Triton dates back to 2015, but was facelifted in 2019, with changes to front and rear designs – and was the last version that we drove. There’s an all-new Triton on the way, due for launch later this month overseas, and that means clearing… Read more

MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS EXCEED PHEV

Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Cross PHEV is a member of what we like to think of as the 100km club. It’s a fairly exclusive club because it costs a lot to get into and the benefits are at best fleeting. Based on the same powertrain as the Outlander PHEV, with both petrol and electric motors, claimed fuel consumption for the Eclipse Cross PHEV is a tiny 1.9L/100km. That’s an impressive figure, but the reality is to achieve this figure the vehicle needs to be recharged each and every 100km – otherwise the… Read more

DOIN’ THE TRITON TWO-STEP

The Triton tapped danced up and down the concrete ‘boards’ of the motorway, leaving occupants shakin’ all over. Thankfully, this was no polka: ‘three-sixties’ here would have been well out of order. On minor-road bitumen the terpsichorean bobbing up and down stepped aside for the GSR dual cab ute to settle for the odd bounce when encountering surface blemishes. Let’s face it, most utes exhibit some degree of rodeo riding. However, there is work to be done here. The new Triton is a relative late comer to the dual cab… Read more

UPDATES AND NEW VARIANT FOR MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSS

Mitsubishi has given its Eclipse Cross small-medium SUV a refresh for 2023 including a new variant called LS Black Edition and the availability of V2L technology to some of the plug-in hybrids. The Eclipse Cross LS Black Edition – it’s not a limited edition – is based on the LS grade. Priced at $1200 more it adds a black finish to the 18-inch alloy wheels, door mirrors and front and rear skid plates. Inside, the black theme continues on the touchscreen surround, dimple leather steering wheel and interior headlining and… Read more
