Although it won’t be offered here, we thought you might like to take a squiz at the new
Toyota Prius.
It’s the most fuel-efficient Prius ever with fuel consumption of 4.1L/100km, 60 per cent
more power with up to 146kW and on-demand all-wheel drive.
When we last drove the car in 2019, we suspected the Prius had passed its use-by-
date.
The technology was sound but its job was done and no longer served a purpose — and
of course it wasn’t an SUV.
Over the course of 20 odd years, Toyota has sold 20,847 examples of the Prius,
highlighting the success of the nameplate.
Combined with the smaller Prius C hatch and Prius V people mover, that total grew to
35,947 total sales.
Prius has been completely redesigned for 2023, with a sleek new exterior design, a re-
imagined interior and amped-up hybrid powertrain.
All-new 2023 Prius brings sporty style with a coupe-inspired shape.
Its sleek silhouette, low roofline, smooth body panels and widened rear are
proportionally balanced by 19-inch wheels.
The interior features a clean, modern design combined with high tech displays and
ambient lighting.
In the US where the updated Prius will be sold, it is priced from $27,450 plus on-road
costs (about $41,200 Aussie dollars).
It is available in LE, XLE and Limited grades, while the upmarket Prius Prime will be
available in SE, XSE and XSE Premium grades.
As part of Toyota’s diverse approach to carbon neutrality, the Prius Prime is part of the
portfolio approach to moving “beyond zero carbon emissions.
With 11 hybrids, two plug-in hybrids, the new bZ4X battery electric vehicle and zero
emission hydrogen fuel cell technology Mirai, Toyota says it is committed to finding
highly efficient and zero emission solutions that fit customers lifestyles across the US.
Through this wide range of products, Toyota’s goal is to provide all customers with
exciting and affordable options to join our Beyond Zero mission to reduce carbon
emissions as much as possible . . . as quickly as possible.
As a symbol of that commitment, the 2023 Prius will be the first Toyota vehicle to wear
a new “Beyond Zero” badge, a global effort to achieve carbon neutrality in products,
manufacturing, and beyond.
