SIXTH GENERATION SUBARU OUTBACK

Subaru’s sixth generation Outback wagon has been launched in Australia. Largest Outback cabin to date – with key interior dimensions increased, including larger, wider-opening cargo area.

New Outback is powered by an almost-new direct injection 2.5-litre Boxer engine with 7.0 per cent more power and 4.2 per cent more torque. That is; from 129 kilowatts to 138 kW, and from 235 Newton metres to 245 Nm.

Subaru Global Platform combines with a new structural frame that provides improved occupant protection from all directions. It is the first Subaru specifically designed to withstand collision impacts under new Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) crash testing.

It has a towing capacity of 2000 kilograms. There’s a 200kg down ball load (10 per cent more than in the superseded model).

Its high Definition 11.6-inch head unit Centre Information Display centralises and simplifies many controls, with vertical orientation and operation which is similar to that of many smartphones.

Autonomous Emergency Steering
Emergency Lane Keep Assist
Speed Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Limiter
It can recognise speed limit signs and visually notifies the driver, while the Intelligent Speed Limiter limits the vehicle speed.
Lane Departure Warning with steering wheel vibration
Pre-Collision Braking System with expanded support for collision avoidance at intersections
The Subaru Driver Monitoring System, helps ensure attentiveness behind the wheel

Dual function X-MODE offers set-and-forget throttle control in mud, snow and steep unsealed surfaces to let the driver concentrate on the road, as well as enjoying the surroundings.

This is the first Subaru to have a front passenger-seat cushion airbag.

LED steering responsible headlights

Outback now has a 12-month/12,500-kilometre Capped Price Service schedule

Subaru Australia General Manager, Blair Read, said: “It’s timely that with the launch of new Outback we celebrate the model’s 25th Anniversary this year and sales of more than 50,000 in Australia.”
