Polestar has pumped up and is talking up its new-look Polestar 2 due here in the second
half of the year.
Single-motor versions are now rear-drive, powered by a newly developed permanent
magnet motor and silicon carbide inverter.
Power is up from 170 to 220kW, with maximum torque rising from 330 to 490Nm. That’s
brought down the dash from 0-100 km/h to as little as 6.2 seconds — 1.2 seconds less.
Dual-motor versions now have a rear-drive bias to give the car a sportier feel.
A new rear motor becomes the primary drive source, supported by a new asynchronous
motor on the front axle.
Total power output rises from 300 to 310kW and torque from 660 to 740Nm, with 0-100
km/h taking 4.5 seconds.
The front motor can now be disengaged completely when not needed, boosting efficiency.
When the driver wants more power, it re-engages instantly and seamlessly.
But wait there’s more. With the optional Performance Pack, up to 350kW of power is
available, with 0-100km/h taking just 4.2 seconds.
The increase in power, performance and driving enjoyment is also available to purchase
as a download for any eligible long range Dual motor cars.
All Polestar 2 versions feature upgraded lithium-ion batteries, with a positive impact on
efficiency and capacity and charging times.
Long-range versions now feature 82 kWh batteries, standard-range versions retain a
capacity of 69 kWh.
The front motor disconnect function on the long-range Dual motor version is particularly
effective at maximising range, which is now up to 592km – a significant increase of 105km.
Standard range Single motor versions are now capable of up to 518km, an increase of
40km, and the long-range Single motor version can now achieve up to 635km WLTP — an
increase of 84 km.
SmartZone makes its debut on Polestar 2 and hosts some of the vehicle’s most important
active safety features, including the front facing camera and mid-range radar.
The 20-inch forged alloy wheels in the Performance Pack have been updated to align with
Polestar 3.
Australian customers will be able to order the 2024 model year Polestar 2 in the second
quarter of 2023, with first deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2023.
