HAVAL H6 ULTRA HYDRID

Haval H6 Hybrid was our road test vehicle for the past week. It teams with other models in the range from the Chinese marque and offers owners strong performance with the combination of good looks and a practical carrying capacity. As with all Havals the H6 Hybrid comes with a seven-year / unlimited kilometre warranty. This is a very strong selling point and, as we have commented on in the past, it’s surprising that most competitors haven’t tried to match or exceed it. STYLING Haval H6 Hybrid has a distinctly… Read more

JOLION HYBRID QUICK TO MAKE UP FOR HIP-POCKET HIT

Jolion has jumped on to the small-to-medium electric sports utility vehicle bandwagon with a petrol / electric hybrid topping out the range as the single specification Ultra model. With a starting price of $40,990 drive away, $7000 more than its equivalent petrol sibling, the Chinese Great Wall Motors sourced-Haval Ultra is at odds with its economic running cost raison d’etre. There are, however, some sweeteners. The hybrid Ultra has unique features such as a new front grille, LED lamps and fog lights with blue accents, and bumper, a new rear… Read more

GREAT WALL MOTORS CANNON UTE

The name Great Wall immediately identifies the origins of the range of utilities that first went on sale here in 2009. They were the first serious attempt by Chinese automakers to gain a foothold into the Australian market. That original Great Wall dual cab 4×4 ute initially made a name for itself with a sub- $30,000 drive-away price. The later model, named the Steed, continued the trend, just, at $29,990. While plenty of tradies took the opportunity to cut their costs, they did so with an element of risk, given… Read more

HAVAL JOLION ULTRA

Jolion is the latest offering in an expanding range of SUVs from Chinese manufacturer Haval GWM. By the way, Jolion means ‘first love’ in Chinese. You remember them, the guys that got the tradies all hot and bothered back in 2009 with cheap utes, followed soon after by the X200/X240 SUV based on the same platform. It was all about the price, but safety soon became an issue and the brand disappeared off the lots for a while it addressed this problem. A couple of years ago Great Wall Motors… Read more

HAVAL JOLION IS WELL-EQUIPPED AND GREAT VALUE

The growth in sales of Chinese vehicles continues to gain momentum. While the SAIC subsidiary, MG Motor, is leading the way with its big-selling SUVs the original breakthrough was made a decade ago with the Great Wall company targeting the tradie market with cheap workhorse utilities of questionable safety quality. Great Wall, now be re-branded as GWM, continues in the ute market with improved quality, but has now entered the booming SUV market with a three-vehicle range: the large H9, mid-sized H6 and the small-medium Jolion. Jolion comes with four… Read more

PRICE ADVANTAGE BUT JOLION LET DOWN BY LITTLE THINGS

Jolion sounds like one of those decent chaps in a Billy Bunter or Tom Brown’s Schooldays caper – a young toff in a starched collar and a top hat. It is, in fact, a compact sports utility vehicle from a Chinese company generally known for its cheap-as-chips workhorse utes. To add to the incongruity, we are told by the maker, Haval Great Wall Motors, Jolion is Chinese for ‘first love’. I suppose with a price range in the mid $20k, what’s not to love about the SUV. The ‘school bell’… Read more

2021 GWM HAVAL H6 LUX

The GWM Haval H6 has just arrived in Australia and is significantly better than the superseded model that we weren’t keen on prior to this. There’s no doubt the Chinese are very quick learners and are keen to be major players in the automotive world. This has resulted in greatly improved build quality control, as well as improvements in overall on-road dynamics. Cheap and cheerful is no longer the way that the Chinese are producing cars, or indeed other products, and the Haval H6 is an excellent example of this…. Read more
