CALL TO MAKE AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING STANDARD ON ALL NEW CARS

Australasia’s independent vehicle safety consumer advocate, ANCAP SAFETY, has welcomed the release of the Australian Government’s Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) to reduce trauma caused by light vehicles through the fitment of autonomous emergency braking. The RIS proposes the introduction of a new Australian Design Rule (ADR) specifying the regulatory need for car-to-car and pedestrian-detecting autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems on new vehicle models from July 2022, and all models from July 2024 – in a similar timeframe to European regulation. BMW 128ti IS A NEAT LITTLE PERFORMANCE MACHINE

The upmarket German company tells us its new BMW 128ti has been introduced to breathe new life into a long tradition. Since the 1960s the BMW “TI” (later “ti”) badge has stood for “Turismo Internazionale”, marking out particularly sporty members of the model range. The new BMW 128ti is based on the M Sport model specification. Its 2.0-litre engine produces 180 kW if power across a handy band of 5,000 to 6,500 rpm. NEW LDV DELIVER 9

LDV’s Deliver 9 has been launched in three variants: the standard wheelbase MR (mid roof); the long wheelbase MR; and the long wheelbase HR (high roof). There’s also a cab chassis option, and 11 or 14-seat bus configurations (in mid and long wheelbase, plus mid and high roof) are also available. Powering each LDV is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel producing 110kW and 375Nm from just 1,500rpm. It is available with stop/start engine technology to trim fuel use and emissions. Skoda Superb Sportline sedan and station wagon imports to Australia have restarted after a prolonged absence. The 2021 Superb is powered by a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine (206kW/350Nm) driving through all four wheels. Mitsubishi has given the Eclipse Cross a facelift and some minor updates. But the big news is that a PHEV (Plugin Hybrid Vehicle) has been added to the range. Lexus UX Line has a new entry-level petrol variant as well as range-wide improvements to practicality, refinement and technology.
