ALFA ROMEO 2000 SPYDER

In the early 1950s the Alfa Romeo plant at Portello had limited production space and a new factory at Arese north of Milan was under construction. Several prototypes of proposed new models such as the 2000 Sportiva were developed and put on display to gauge public acceptance. However, due to a complete lack of public interest and minimal interest in placing orders, the projects were all abandoned. Whilst the 2000 Sportiva was canned, the 2000 four-cylinder engine developed especially for it was not. At the time Alfa’s main line was… Read more

Hence, in 1967, when Alfa Romeo was making plans to introduce a new model to sell alongside the Giulia 1600 they had the foresight to revive a great name. Whilst the engine of this new car had a displacement closer to 1800 cc, it was only 29 cc greater than 1750, so the decision was made by Alfa management to revive the old name and use it in all sales promotion relating to this… Read more

ALFASUD 1.5ti

When the Alfasud 1.2ti was first introduced it was hailed as one of the world’s best and most popular small sedans. Externally the changes were not significant; a keen eye could spot the differences such as the change in styling of the rear spoiler, the addition of a front air dam and the black moulded wheel arch flares. The car was also slightly longer and slightly wider but the same wheelbase was maintained. The 1.5-litre,… Read more

ALFA ROMEO MiTo 2009 – 2016

Alfa Romeo MiTo Italian is a small three-door hatchback that has the sort of driving verve and excitement keen drivers just love. Prompt handling, lively engine (in some, see later) and a general feeling of liking to be in the car. The little Alfa is lovely to look at it and the gorgeous styling, inside and out, makes it stand out from the typically sensible German and upmarket Asian small cars in this market segment. Marking was poor, however. MiTo was overpriced when introduced here in July 2009 and sales… Read more
