2018 BMW X2 sDrive 20i REVIEW

BMW’s latest addition to its Australian stable, the gorgeous to look at X2, has quickly created a ripple of excitement in the small SUV space. The upmarket German marque prefers to call it a sports activity coupe (SAC), much in line with its X4 and X6, but it looks rather different from BMW’s other SUV offerings – and we like that. The manufacturer is hopeful X2’s looks will be a worthy weapon in the fight to garner conquest sales, appealing to new buyers who may find their allegiance to other… Read more

The third engine in the Equinox range, the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine has power and torque of 100 kW and 320 Nm respectively. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic and available in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive. RANGE ROVER EVOQUE 2011 – 2016

Range Rover Evoque, launched Downunder in October 2011 is a stylish SUV that can tackle moderately tough conditions when in its all-wheel drive variant. It’s also sold with two-wheel drive, which can be used on forest trails and the like as ground clearance is the same as AWD models. We wouldn’t take one to a beach, though. Evoque looks like it has a very low roof, but that’s a clever illusion. While the roof certainly slopes down at the rear, the angle is not as steep as it seems as… Read more

NEW COMMODORE PERFORMANCE FLAGSHIP

We’ve recently reviewed the new ZB Calais Tourer wagon and the mid-spec Commodore RS-V Liftback. This week we’re looking at the VXR, the performance flagship of the new Commodore range which ostensibly replaces the previous SS and SS-V models. However it can hardly be called an apples-with-apples comparison. The new Commodore VRX comes with a 235 kW / 381 Nm V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The superseded Commodore SS had a 304kW / 570 Nm V8, six-speed auto and rear-wheel drive. The use of all-wheel… Read more

FORD RANGER UPGRADES

Ford Australia has announced details of the MY19 Ford Ranger pickup truck. There’s a particular emphasis on the top end of the range as more and more buyers are opting for small trucks instead of cars. Biggest news is the introduction of a high-tech 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. This new BiTurbo unit produces a huge 500Nm from 1750rpm. A fixed-geometry turbocharger is used for fast throttle response and minimum lag. Then a secondary turbocharger features advanced variable geometry to deliver performance gains and smoothness at higher speeds, taking over from the… Read more

RENAULT 4CV

Through many trials and tribulation, Louis Renault became the leading French car manufacturer, triumphing over Andre Citroen during the 1920s. As early as 1900, Renaults had adopted a sloping coal scuttle bonnet which became a distinguishing mark of the company’s products. The engines ranged from a 1.1-litre two-cylinder through a quartet of fours of 2.1 to 7.4 litres, followed in 1908 by a 9.5-litre six. Except for the taxi-orientated twins, the emphasis was on prestige until World War I. Following that war, Renault offered three updated fours, accounting for most… Read more

Inside, the Elite has luxury features such as A beige leather trimmed interior, two-tone colour dashboard as well as heated front seats. Even better, the driver’s seat is ventilated. The rearview mirror is self dimming and dual sunroofs offer plenty of light. Commercial vehicles don’t get facelifts as frequently as pure passenger… Read more

ALL KIA STINGERS NOW RATED FIVE-STAR BY ANCAP

All models of Kia Stinger built from March 2018 onwards now have a five-star ANCAP safety rating. That’s due to the inclusion of autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist on the Stinger 200S and 330S models. Previously these cars were only three-star rated because these safety features were missing. As well as adding these safety items the lower-cost Stingers were also fitted with adaptive cruise control, driver inattention alert and automatic wipers. This has led to a $1000 price rise in these models, Stinger 200S is now $46,990 rrp, the… Read more

2018 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED

Winning a war can often happen in fits and starts – advancing for days and capturing strategic posts before the enemy halts your progress with tenacious fighting. Certainly, that was a case in the Second World War when the legendary jeep, used to mobilise the Allied forces, first came into its own. Those vehicles may have been spartan and cramped but they were highly functional, their all-round ability and dogged attitude personifying the Allies’ determination and ingenuity in stopping the opposing Axis forces. It is fitting then that as the… Read more
