Nissan’s new flagship performance 2022 GT-R, will expand to five grades from October 2021, with the introduction of two special editions; the GT-R T-spec and GT-R NISMO SV. This will be the last time the current-generation vehicle will be offered in Australia.
They sit atop their respective GT-R ranges and offered in Premium, Premium Luxury, and T-spec editions, as well as NISMO and NISMO SV editions.
“The GT-R has earned its place at the pinnacle of performance around the world, acting as a true automotive icon for more than 50 years,” says Nissan Australia Managing Director, Adam Paterson.
“This isn’t the end of the GT-R story in Australia, but it will mark the closure of this chapter for this generation vehicle. And there is surely no more fitting a send-off for this performance hero than with an expanded range offering that includes not one but two thrilling special editions.”
The MY22 Nissan GT-R range begins with the GT-R Premium. Standard performance equipment includes the Nissan Brembo braking system, with four-wheel disc brakes (390mm front, 380mm rear), utilising front and rear two-piece floating rotors with diamond-pattern internal ventilation.
It has 20-inch lightweight RAYS forged-alloy wheels (20×9.5 front, 20×10.5 rear). There are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx high-performance tyres.
A carbon-fibre engine chassis brace and carbon-composite front cross member further enhance handling.
At the rear, a blue titanium exhaust with sound control provides all the right sounds.
In the cabin, leather-accented seats (heated in the front), an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, a BOSE premium audio system with 11 speakers, including dual subwoofers, and an Intelligent Key with push-button ignition.
The GT-R Premium Luxury builds on the equipment list of the Premium, adding fine hand-stitched semi-aniline leather-accented seats, with the same luxurious-feeling material featured on the steering wheel, gearshift, dashboard and door panels.
The new GT-R T-spec exclusive edition further increases the performance equipment, significantly closing the gap between the regular GT-R and the NISMO versions.
It has Brembo carbon-ceramic rotors, now 410mm front and 390mm rear. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx high-performance tyres sit inside model-exclusive forged gold alloy wheels.
The rear is now fitted with a carbon-fibre spoiler for lightweight aerodynamics.
The steering wheel, shift lever, seat trim and dashboard decoration are finished in a model-exclusive dark green colour and are joined by the quilt-stitched Alcantara roof lining, suede A-pillar finishers and model-exclusive kick plate finishers.
The VR38DETT 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 with GT3 race car-supplied turbochargers is at the heart of the GT-R NISMO drivetrain, producing 600 horsepower (441kW) at 6800rpm and 652Nm of torque at 3600rpm.
Each engine is handcrafted by its own Takumi technician. The Takumi certification plate on the engine is also in an exclusive colour.
Weight is further reduced by the use of carbon-fibre, including on the bootlid, front and rear bumpers, side sills, rear spoiler and roof, while the NISMO Recaro leather-accented seats with Alcantara inserts also feature carbon-fibre seat-backs.
The interior has a NISMO red-and-black theme, with a NISMO Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and gauge hood, and a NISMO tachometer.
The NISMO SV, has an exclusive clear-coated carbon-fibre bonnet, which not only exposes the intricate carbon-fibre weave. The edition-exclusive 20-inch Rays aluminium forged wheels have a red accent that matches existing accents around the body.
The 2022 Nissan GT-R T-spec and NISMO SV will arrive in Australia from October.
