Suzuki Queensland has launched an all-new model with high levels of luxury and active
safety features. Note that Suzuki Queensland is a separate entity to Suzuki in the rest of
Australia, but it’s expected that the two entities will be very much the same. If you’re in
another State or Territory and considering buying a Suzuki we suggest you talk to the
dealer of your choice about the new model.
The 2022 S-Cross is being released in Queensland with two specification lines: GL-Plus
and GLX with the GLX also having the option of a sunroof. The model names elsewhere
are All Grip and All Grip Premium respectively with the latter having the sunroof as
standard.
The new S-Cross has Suzuki’s Dual Sensor Brake Support system with an anti-lock
braking system, electronic stability control, a lane weaving alert and lane departure
warning.
It incorporates an autonomous braking system that has three levels of assistance:
Potential forward collision warning. Forward collision mitigation and braking assistance
and Full autonomous braking.
Adaptive cruise control which regulates travelling distance to the vehicle in front, is
standard across both models.
Parking sensors, front and rear are standard across the Suzuki S-Cross range.
Both models have Suzuki’s All-Grip traction system which automatically switches between
two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive depending on road conditions and the driving style.
Suzuki says it is a milder version of Suzuki’s All Grip Pro which features a limited slip drive
traction control system used on the current model Jimny hardcore off-roader.
There are four modes to the All Grip system on the new S-Cross:
Auto which is the default model which prioritises minimising fuel consumption in normal
urban and highway driving conditions
Sport, which improves cornering performance by managing the torque directed to the front
and rear wheels and which also improves the delivered engine response by managing the
relationships between acceleration input, torque and engine speed
Snow and mud which provides maximum grip to all four wheels on unpaved and slippery
surfaces.
Lock which provides high torque distribution to all four wheels to keep them turning and
extricate the S-Cross from muddy, sandy or snow conditions.
New Suzuki S-Cross has heated front seats on both models, covered in fabric material on
the GL-Plus and a combination of genuine leather and leatherette on the GLX.
Cleverly the air conditioning is dual zone and can compensate for different areas of
radiated heat such as when travelling north in the morning with the sunlight essentially
hitting the driver’s side of the car.
The Suzuki also will have Digital Audio Broadcasting as part of the infotainment system.
The GL-Plus has a 7-inch infotainment system which incorporates a rearview camera to
assist in parking as well as avoiding tragedy when toddlers are moving around near the
car.
Suzuki GLX infotainment system now has a 9-inch system with navigation and includes a
360-degree camera for a bird’s eye view of happenings and objects around the S-Cross.
A trip computer which gives instant and average fuel consumption readouts as well as
average speed is standard.
The display also has a digital clock, gear position indicator, driving mode indicator, driving
range until empty and ambient temperature and can be personalised to display data the
way the driver wants to view it.
Auto adjusting headlights and daylight running lights are standard as are seven airbags,
tinted front windows and rear privacy glass.
Powering the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross is a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with a maximum of
103kW. Its maximum torque of 220Nm is spread across a wide rev range, from 1,500 to
4,000rpm. It drives through a six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle
shifts.
Fuel consumption is rated at 5.2 litres per 100km on the extra urban cycle, 7.9 on the
urban cycle and 6.2 litres per 100km on the combined. (Combined CO2 is 145g/km).
Suzuki Queensland’s General Manager Sales and Marketing Stephen Craig said: “The
only downside is securing sufficient stock to meet the demand for the S-Cross we suggest
entering into a sale agreement to establish a position in the supply queue to minimise
waiting times.”
