The Coupé is shorter than the Mercedes GLE SUV model on which it is based, to give it sportier handling and feel. At the same time it’s more aerodynamically efficient.
The choice of three potent petrol-powered engines, including two model variants tuned by Mercedes-AMG, results in performance that keeps the promise made by the lithe, eye-catching body shape.
The GLE 450 model is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol six-cylinder (270 kW/500 Nm) supplemented by 48V EQ Boost technology that can add a further 16 kW/250Nm of electric output. It uses a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic and 4MATIC all-wheel grip.
Features include AMG-inspired interior styling, the MBUX widescreen digital interface featuring side-by-side 12.3-inch high resolution screens with customisable displays. Nappa leather upholstery, heated front seats with memory settings, a panoramic sliding glass sunroof, ambient lighting with 64 colours, and smartphone integration with wireless charging.
The MBUX multimedia system brings together the innovation and convenience of the ‘Hey Mercedes’ command that recognises and actions dozens of common spoken requests.
Standard safety features includes nine airbags, Active Steering Assist, DISTRONIC cruise control with Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic warning function, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.
The GLE 53 adds to the 450 model’s specification with a range of AMG performance equipment as well as AMG-inspired visual styling. It’s 48V EQ-boosted 3.0-litre turbo-petrol six outputs 320 kW and 520 Nm.
The GLE 53 also introduces a new suspension technology, AMG RIDE CONTROL+ with AMG Active Ride Control. This incorporates 48V active roll-stabiliser bars and, in co-operation with AIRMATIC, offers continuously variable adjustable damping. The result is enhanced vehicle dynamics and comfort, both on and off the road, working in tandem with a more direct steering ratio.
At the heart of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupé is a potent 4.0-litre twin-turbo-petrol V8 engine with monstrous outputs of 450 kW and 850 Nm. It has 48V EQ Boost technology
AMG GLE 53 has an AMG electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential, high-performance composite braking system. As well as the AMG Track Pace app and the Driving Assistance Package Plus.
Its seats are trimmed in AMG Exclusive Nappa leather, including multi-contour front seats with Seat-Heating Plus, Warmth Comfort Package including armrest heating. There’s an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and DINAMICA microfibre, ENERGIZING Package Plus and AIR-BALANCE Package, dashboard and door belt-lines in Nappa leather, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control.
The GLE 63 S Coupé incorporates Active Traffic Assist, power-closing doors, a heated windscreen washer system and 22-inch AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels.
The updated Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé is expected to arrive during September, while the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupé is expected late in 2020. Dealers are now taking orders.
