Though it was only introduced a few months back the Hyundai Accent has now received a makeover. It has a bolder mesh-style front grille with dark chromed surrounds, brighter headlight bezels and a bolder front bumper shape together with a brighter range of exterior colours.
Pulse Red and Blue Lagoon bodies make a pleasant change from whites, black and silvers are all the rage at present – though it has to be said Hyundai is also offered in these shades.
Hyundai Accent sedan and hatchbacks have new front end styling and new look instruments in MY18 format.
Inside, new fonts are used for the speedometer and tachometer readings and the redline section of the tacho has been revised. There’s a four-speaker audio system with smallish 5.0-inch touchscreen, Aux and USB inputs, Bluetooth connectivity and music streaming via Apple CarPlay.
The ‘Sport’ in the title of the latest Accent is on the optimistic side. Power comes from a 103kW / 167Nm 1.6-litre engine that gives it decent performance, but don’t try to take on any hot hatches in drag races.
The revised Hyundai Accent Sport is available in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback bodies, with the pricing being the same for both. That is $15,490 for a six-speed manual, with the automatic costing an additional $2000. The recommended prices are unchanged from the MY17 series and on-road costs have to be added.
This Sport is now the only Accent on the market, the previous Active and SR variants are no more.
