Australia’s peak automotive body, The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, has welcomed the announcement Australians will be encouraged to choose the technology that best suits their needs as the country aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“This announcement, which forms part of the Government’s direction towards a 2050 net-zero emissions target and ahead of the 2021 United Nations Climate Conference in Glasgow, provides a signal that Australia is wanting to step up its adoption of new technologies and improve our national environmental performance,” according to FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber.
“The FCAI will work alongside the Federal Government on the adoption of its strategy.”
The FCAI and its members introduced its own Voluntary CO2 Emissions Standard targets for 2030 and reported for the first time in March this year.
“The automotive sector is ready and willing to participate when it comes to a direction on emissions reduction and the adoption of world’s best vehicle technology. I encourage the Federal Government to adopt the FCAI Standard and work alongside the industry to send a strong signal to global manufacturing headquarters that Australians want access to the best vehicle technologies in the world,” Mr Weber said.
