Volkswagen has revealed a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace called the Tayron.
It is positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, and will be offered in both five- and seven-seat form.
Tayron will arrive in September, but there is no word on pricing yet.
Diesel and hybrid powertrains will not be available at launch.
Four petrol-versions will initially be offered: Tayron 110TSI Life, 150TSI Life, 150TSI Elegance and 195TSI R-Line. 110TSI Life and Elegance are seven seaters.
Tayron boasts a premium cabin design, material choices and a quality fit and finish, combined with elegant exterior design and the latest infotainment and safety technology inclusions.
The all-new (to our shores) model is about 250mm longer than the all-new, third-generation Tiguan, with a wheelbase that is 110mm longer.
This allows for third row seating, additional second row space and generous luggage space.
In seven-seat versions, luggage capacity is a sizeable 850 litres with the third row folded — 150 litres more than the Tiguan Allspace that it replaces.
The 1.4-litre turbocharged four cylinder 110TSI Life offers 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque, with a seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) delivering drive to the front wheels.
Braked towing capacity is 1800kg.
Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloys, keyless access with alarm, power tailgate, 360-degree camera, Digital Cockpit Pro (widescreen driver display), 12.9-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless smartphone charging and DAB+ digital radio.
Volkswagen’s leading Travel Assist (incorporating adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist for semi-autonomous and stop-and-go driving), Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring and Side Assist with rear traffic alert are also standard.
They join side exit warning, front cross-traffic assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning with swerve support, Park Assist Plus (with semi-autonomous steering and throttle/braking to park), 9 airbags (including centre) and Dynamic Road Sign Assist.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged Life 150TSI delivers 150kW and 320Nm with drive to all four wheels, and adaptive suspension.
It’s rated to tow up to 2500kg.
The hotted up 2.0-litre 195TSI R-Line ups the ante with 195kW of power and 400Nm of torque, 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds.
