BENZ FLAGSHIP FIRES BIGGEST SALVO

Remember how we rushed to start up a conversation with our cars when Siri found her voice several years ago, and who would have thought that 12 months ago social distancing could have been a selling point with a new vehicle? These both came to mind as I did the rounds of an MY2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS 400d 4Matic SUV recently. Both the above feature pointedly in the luxurious German wagon, Benz’s biggest. Connectivity with the vehicle in the form of Mercedes’ own Apple-style personal assistant, the MBUX system, and space… Read more

Add to this a new AMG eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and A 45 S 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. And the result is a zero-to-100 km/h sprint of 3.9… Read more

LATEST MERCEDES-BENZ GLA 250 LOOKS THE SUV PART

Mercedes-Benz uses the GL prefix for its extensive range of SUV vehicles with the third character in the name indicating the passenger car model on which it’s based. So GLA is based on the A-Class, GLB on the B-Class, etc. The GLA was first sold here in 2014 with the latest update arriving in July with a more characteristic SUV look than the previous hatch-like model. It is taller, wider and has a longer wheelbase but is actually shorter in overall length with shorter overhangs. This together with some protective… Read more

MERCEDES 250 GLB MUSCLES IN TO COMPACT SUV CLASS

Until today, a seven-seater compact sports utility vehicle was a something of contradiction in terms. Typically, it has been left to an automobile manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz stature to disprove this. So, what brought on the challenge to Benz designers and engineers to breed this unique beast? Britta Seeger, member of the board of management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes car sales, says every third Mercedes-Benz is an SUV, every fourth a compact car, so a compact SUV such as the GLB has all the genes of the two highest-volume… Read more

The package includes a light function for off-road driving, widening the spread of the beam for better illumination during low-speed manoeuvring. Standard equipment includes Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist with exit warning assistant,… Read more

NEW MERCEDES-BENZ GLE COUPÉ

Australian pricing and specification for the new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé range have been announced. Compared to the outgoing model it’s larger inside the cabin and has greatly upgraded technology. The Coupé is shorter than the Mercedes GLE SUV model on which it is based, to give it sportier handling and feel. At the same time it’s more aerodynamically efficient. The choice of three potent petrol-powered engines, including two model variants tuned by Mercedes-AMG, results in performance that keeps the promise made by the lithe, eye-catching body shape. The GLE 450… Read more
