NEW MERCEDES E-CLASS IS A TECHNOLOGICAL TOUR-DE-FORCE

The latest, tenth generation, version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class model is due to be released here within a few weeks. We’ll be attending the Australian launch and will provide a full review of this luxurious, prestigious and stylish medium-large car at the time. To avoid the information overload that would otherwise occur, Benz has given us a pre-launch overview of the remarkable range of technologically advanced safety and other features within the car. While many of these have been seen previously there are a number of new features that combine… Read more

TOP-OF-THE-CLASS COUPE KEEPS UP STANDARDS

It’s a case of more for less with the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class halo car. The C 63 S AMG coupe has arrived Down Under carrying with it more than a few pleasant surprises. This is borne out by a cut in engine capacity from that of the model it replaces. Last time the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine was a carryover from the previous model and when fired up launched the car to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds thanks to the 336 kW on call at 6800 rpm and 600 Nm… Read more

MERCEDES-AMG’S HOT HATCH

The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic is the halo car of the new A-Class. In style and substance the compact is in a class of its own, taking the hot hatch to a new level. Getting straight to the nub of the matter, the car is powered by the world’s most powerful production four-cylinder passenger car engine. A turbocharged 2.0-litre unit from Mercedes-Benz’s performance arm AMG, the engine pumps out 280 kW of power and 475 Nm of torque. Thant’s enough to spear the car from rest to 100 km/h in… Read more

MERCEDES-AMG C 63 S COUPE

Sleek, low and purposeful, Mercedes-AMG C 63 S coupe is a serious machine

Australians are the biggest buyers of Mercedes-AMG cars on the planet when taken as a percentage of all Mercedes-Benz sales. Machines from the high-performance division sell to people who mean business and who want to get the best from their cars, and even more importantly, from themselves as drivers. The latest model in the range is the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S coupe with a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine producing 375 kW of power and a prodigious 700 Nm of torque. That sort of grunt permits acceleration from zero to 100… Read more

BENZ COUPE STEPS UP TO THE PLATE WITH PLENTY TO SPARE

The paint had hardly dried before the latest C-Class Coupe started attracting accolades. The Good Design Awards Australia bestowed on the Mercedes-Benz the 2015 gong for outstanding product design and innovation. Trim and technology are all well and good but how do they translate to performance and practicality? Pretty well, as I found out on a recent hit-out with a trio of models in and around the Yarra Valley in Victoria. First impressions are that of a sleek and stylish two-door in the coupe tradition stamped with the latest sporty… Read more

MERCEDES A 250 SPORT LOOKS GREAT, GOES HARD

Mercedes-Benz A-Class received a facelift at the start of 2016. We’ve just spent an interesting week in the A250, the model that we forecast is likely to be the biggest seller in the extensive range. It’s not the lowest cost model A-Class; the A 180 is priced at just $37,200, a real bargain for a car with the prestigious three-pointed star on the grill. Nor is as manic as the A 45 AMG which has a tag of $77,900 and really needs a racetrack to get your pulse racing. At… Read more

MERCEDES-BENZ GLC IS GOOD-LOOKING AND PRACTICAL

Mercedes-Benz Australia has been waiting for the GLC for years. Previous models in this class, with a tag of GLK, weren’t fitted with steering wheel on our side so couldn’t be imported. Now the local importer finally has a competitor in one of the most fiercely fought of all market segments in Australia, that of upmarket midsize SUVs. In case you’re wondering, the new Mercedes model numbering system indicates the body type in the first two letters and the Class in the final letter. Thus ‘GL’ means it’s an SUV,… Read more

MERCEDES-BENZ B-CLASS 2005 – 2015

2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class

From time to time you may have read my mutterings that fashion takes precedence over function in cars far too often. Which is why I admire the Mercedes-Benz B-Class so much, it’s a major case of function pushing fashion aside. It is immensely practical, with a spacious interior (you need a large Mercedes S-Class to get more rear legroom), a tall seating position that provides good visibility, and variable luggage space that can be tailored in many ways. Merc B-Class is smaller on the outside than most compact SUVs so… Read more

MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS GETS A FACELIFT, MORE STANDARD GEAR

Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been a huge success in Australia since it made a major change in direction at the start of 2013. The first two generations were tall and short with a big emphasis on ease of city driving and tight-spot parking. The gen-three switched to being a stylish hatch that’s significantly lower and longer. Now the A-Class for 2016 has received a facelift and tail-tuck, as well as additional technology, with all versions now having adaptive suspension and satellite navigation. The Mercedes A 180 has 17-inch wheels, Garmin Map… Read more
