NEW MERCEDES-BENZ GLA

Mercedes-Benz_GLA_frontA virtually-new Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover SUV has been announced. Interestingly, at 1616 mm high, it’s 122 mm taller overall than the outgoing model which can be described as a tall hatch rather than an SUV.

Models in the GLA range equipped with the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system will be equipped with the Off-Road Engineering Package as standard. The package includes a light function for off-road driving, widening the spread of the beam for better illumination during low-speed manoeuvring.

Standard equipment includes Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist with exit warning assistant, which alerts the driver to approaching cyclists or vehicles if the door begins to open into their path. As well as Active Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.

All-round protective cladding adds to the GLA’s off-road character. Cleverly, the doors reach over the sills, improving ease of access whilst keeping the door frames (and occupants’ trousers) free of dirt. They also add to impact protection in a side collision.

Inside, the GLA has the same widescreen array of side-by-side 10.25-inch digital screens as other new-generation members of the company’s compact car range.

The intuitive MBUX infotainment system, featuring ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice actuation for dozens of common commands, is shown on the screens in a choice of four different themes.

Mercedes-Benz_GLA_rearThe Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 has a 1.3-litre, turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine making 120 kW and 250 Nm, sending power to the front wheels via a 7G-DCT seven-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4MATIC is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 165 kW and 350 Nm via an 8G-DCT eight-speed auto, with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.

The GLA 200 and GLA 250 4MATIC will be later by joined by two high-performance models: the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC and the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+.

For a limited time, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 and GLA 250 4MATIC can be specified with the exclusive Edition 1 package, which has additional features as well as several distinctive cosmetic enhancements.
