TOYOTA YARIS IS GOING HYBRID

Toyota has been deeply into fuel-saving, clean-running hybrid vehicles for many years, with its Prius now being in its 20th year of sales in Australia. An all-new Yaris hybrid will reach us in May and will be Toyota Australia’s most fuel-efficient car. With a new 1.5-litre petrol / hybrid powertrain it will offer an official combined fuel consumption figure of just 3.3L/100km. Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said the addition of the hybrid drivetrain to the Yaris range would not only benefit customers with lower fuel… Read more

KLUGER ‘CLUB’ TURNS INTO BIG FOLLOWING

Like the classic hymn book, there’s something ancient and something modern about the Kluger. For starters (literally) the engine in the entry-level GX is fired up by turning the ignition key in a steering column-mounted lock, rather than a push button – old school. Then the parking brake is operated by a pedal – a thing of the past that still hangs on in one or two new vehicles. Not that the large Toyota sports utility vehicle is creaking at the joints. Among the latest in automotive technology on board… Read more

TOYOTA VAN COMES ON BOARD WITH LATE DELIVERY

Fifteen years is a long time in the automobile industry, with models often turning over every four to six years, so it comes as a surprise that the new HiAce has only just welcomed a new generation of the light commercial stalwart. As if to make amends, Toyota Australia Vice-President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley says every aspect of the all-new HiAce has been designed to appeal to owners who often spend long days behind the wheel. This includes better performance, a quiet cabin, smooth ride and improved handling and… Read more

TOYOTA 86 2012 – 2018

2012 Toyota 86

Toyota 86 is a small 2+2 sportscar that’s aimed very much at the purist driver. It’s also aimed at those who don’t have the means to spend upwards of $40,000 on a new car. Ten of thousands less than anything else that provides so much pure driving enjoyment. If you find the name of 86 a bit on the bland side, try Hachi-Roku it’s title in Japanese. Sounds good, doesn’t it? You could even call it the Subaru BRZ as the two are closely related twins and come from a… Read more

2020 TOYOTA RAV4 EDGE

Twenty five years after the first Toyota RAV4 (Recreational Activity Vehicle 4WD) was introduced Downunder, Toyota launched the fifth generation in May 2019. Since then SUVs have begun to dominate the market in Australia and now outsell passenger cars. Mind you – most so-called SUVs are really only tall hatchbacks, with car-type ground clearance, and may not be driven by all four wheels. But buyers love the convenience of easy entry and exit and cargo carrying capacity. Toyota RAV4 continues to be a major player in its segment and the… Read more

TOYOTA YARIS 2011 – 2018

2017 Toyota Yaris

Toyota Yaris is a smaller brother to the big selling Corolla and is aimed at those primarily driving in the city and suburbs. It can be used on country trips, though you’re probably best to keep clear of unsealed roads. Even rough sealed surfaces can challenge the suspension and the ride can be pretty bumpy on occasions. It’s one of the top sellers in its class so there are plenty on sale at any one time. Use this to your advantage by picking and choosing between those on offer. Yaris… Read more

PRIUS STILL LEADING LIGHT IN TOYOTA POWER PLAY

Think what you will about Toyota, when it comes to electric vehicles, the Japanese automotive giant has stuck to its guns. It’s been petrol / electric hybrid all the way. Its Prius hatchback, in 2001, was the first hybrid to make a real impression on the automobile market in Australia and, indeed, around the world. The ubiquitous Prius taxis speaks to this. And, it seems, there’s no letting up, with the fourth generation of the pioneering Toyota hybrid, casting off the somewhat frumpy styling of the original model, taking on… Read more

ALL-NEW TOYOTA HIACE IS THE SAFEST YET

Toyota HiAce range

Fifteen years is almost three lifetimes in motor car terms but that’s how long the previous Toyota HiAce commercial van was on the Australian market. Despite increased competition in recent years it’s been the top-selling van throughout that 15-year period and is sure to continue there with the release of an all-new model. The most noticeable change with new HiAce is that it now comes in a semi-bonneted configuration that not only provides extra collision safety but also, because it allows the engine to be moved forward ahead of the… Read more
