PORSCHE CLASSIC BUILDS A CLASSIC 911 USING GENUINE PARTS

Nostalgia is the flavour of the moment with carmakers. We recently did a piece on Aston Martin’s replica James Bond DB5. Now comes news from Porsche Classic has built a highly desirable collector’s item, the last 911 Turbo with an air-cooled engine – 20 years after the end of series production. The 993-generation 911 Turbo is based on an original bodyshell, and the vehicle’s appearance is just as special as its history, being painted in Golden Yellow Metallic as featured on the 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. PORSCHE TAYCAN IS PURE ELECTRIC

Production of the first purely electric Porsche, the Taycan, will begin in 2019. however, Porsche Australia says the Taycan won’t go on sale here until 2020. The name Taycan can be roughly translated as “lively young horse”, the Porsche crest, has featured a leaping steed since 1952 and refers to the coat of arms of Stuttgart, Porsche’s home town. Porsche Taycan will be powered by two “permanently excited” synchronous motors (PSM) with an output of over 600 horsepower (440 kW). The instant torque of the electric motors mean Porsche Taycan… Read more

PORSCHE CAYENNE E-HYBRID

Porsche is expanding its range of hybrids sold in Australia the new Cayenne E-Hybrid. Following the old adage that racing ‘improves the breed’ the German sportscar maker has dominated the famed LeMans 24-hour race with hybrid cars for several years. Cayenne E-Hybrid has a 3.0-litre V6 engine (250 kW) combined with an electric engine (100 kW) to generate system power of up to 340 kW. The apparent mathematical discrepancy here is due to the fact that the two powerplants provide their best at different times. The maximum torque of 700… Read more

PORSCHE BOXSTER AND CAYMAN 2012 – 2016

Porsche Boxster roadster and Cayman coupe are the same vehicle, except that there’s a folding roof in the former and a fixed one in the latter. They were introduced to provide a lower-cost model than the 911. However, some regard these smaller vehicles as being ‘not really a Porsche’ so they haven’t sold as well as anticipated. A sad situation as they really are great to drive and, because in some ways they are more practical and safer than the 911. Boxer and Cayman are mid-engined sportscars, meaning the engine… Read more

PORSCHE 911 CARRERA T

The 911 Carrera T is based on the standard 911 Carrera, but with major changes. While the T stands for Touring in Porsche speak this is not a GT (grand touring) vehicle in the conventional manner rather the T is aimed at harder performance through lower weight. The legendary Colin Chapman famously said when he designed his racing and sportscars, “First add lightness.” To trim mass the Porsche Carrera T rear window and rear-side windows are made from lighter glass and the door trims feature opening pull loops instead… Read more

The third generation Porsche Cayenne was announced at a major special event in the German company’s home city of Stuttgart. The floorpan assembly, front section and virtually all the chassis components are also manufactured from alloy. Fascinatingly, a lithium-ion polymer starter battery… Read more

2017 PORSCHE MACAN GTS REVIEW

Porsche is introducing new members to its Macan midsize SUV at a rate that’s hard to keep up with. Late in 2016 it came up with a low-cost 185 kW four-cylinder model retailing for just $80,410. Earlier in the year Porsche had added a Performance Package to the already hot Macan Turbo. With a tag of $133,800 it wasn’t exactly cheap, but having 324 kW under your right foot made it a proposal for those who are cash rich. So, it seemed like a good time to get behind the… Read more

Only a matter of weeks after the introduction of the standard versions of the Panamera to Australia the German sportscar maker is to show the new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show.
