MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS COUPE ANNOUNCED

Mercedes-Benz has released details of the coupe version of its new E-Class range. And the chances are the first ones are on their way to the docks to head downunder as we write this. They’re to be launched here in June and dealers are taking orders now. The low, sleek proportions work well with a low grille, long bonnet with power domes, and the cabin sitting further rearward. There are four frameless side windows and as there’s no B-pillar – the visual emphasis is very much about style. However, it’s… Read more

B. 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK BODY COPY Mercedes-Benz SLK is a small to medium sportscar that’s been a big success on the Australian market since it arrived here 20 years ago. Success that saw the waiting list stretch to over a year in the earliest years. These older models, from February 1997 are getting on in years so we will concentrate on the second generation SLKs that first arrived downunder in August 2004. Having said that, we often see the first generation… Read more

MERCEDES BENZ SSK

1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK

The SSK – K from the German for short – was designed by Dr Ferdinand Porsche and was among the highest performance cars of the early 1920s produced anywhere in the world. This performance came from the supercharger with which the SSK was equipped. Mercedes developed supercharging technology for use in aero engines during the 1914-18 war as a means of dramatically increasing power without adding a great deal of weight. The last Mercedes cars designed by Paul Daimler before, in 1922, he left the company founded by his father… Read more

The C 63 won’t be here till early 2017. However, Mercedes did bring in a couple of early examples of the AMGs and we were able to drive a C 43 following the drive program for the standard models. Our ride in a C 63 S will have to wait till later. Cleverly, the Mercedes-Benz PR… Read more

MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS CABRIOLET

Mercedes-Benz Australia has added to its line-up by introducing an open-top C-Class Cabriolet in both standard and AMG variants. Given the obvious love of the high-performance models – Australia is number one globally for AMG models as a percentage of overall sales – there’s a big emphasis on using Mercedes-AMG components in every Cabriolet coming here. To make the convertible usable at short notice, its soft-top can be opened and closed in 20 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. We prefer the use of a soft-top to a folding… Read more

2017 MERCEDES-BENZ E 220d REVIEW

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class models are vitally important to the German giant car maker. As it moves down to lower-priced models, relatively speaking, it’s vital that the midrange E-Class Mercs retain the prestigious reputation it has enjoyed for many decades. New E-Class is longer than the superseded one, with increased wheelbase and wheel track. It’s also marginally lower and narrower. Weight has been reduced by about 75 kg, depending on the model. This has been achieved by the use of more high strength steel, making the body stronger. We attended the… Read more

2016 MERCEDES-BENZ C 200 COUPE REVIEW

Yet another model has been added to the huge Mercedes-Benz range, this time a coupe version of the latest C-Class. It joins the existing four-door sedan, the vehicle that took out the award for World Car of the Year in 2015. Crammed full of safety and infotainment technology the new C-Class coupe is larger yet lighter, stronger and quieter than the model it replaces. Advanced lightweight construction with a higher proportion of aluminium is the secret. Light-alloy components include the front guards, bonnet and bootlid. The stiffer body not only… Read more

2016 MERCEDES-AMG C 63 S SEDAN REVIEW

Australians make no bones about the fact that they love to drive, and if their budgets are up to it many will go for the high-performance models in any range. We are the biggest buyers of Mercedes-AMG models in the world when taken as a percentage of all Mercedes-Benz sales. We have just spent a very enjoyable week in a Mercedes-AMG C 63 S sedan, just the thing for a family man or woman in a hurry. That’s as a follow-up to our track day testing of the coupe version… Read more

NEW MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS

In a move that’s likely to take its competitors by surprise Mercedes-Benz has given its new E-Class range a real sporty look. Obviously the success of Mercedes in the redhot competition that is Grand Prix racing in recent years has inspired the German marque to move right away from its lingering reputation of only making conservative cars for middle aged buyers. The shape of the E-Class’s dominant two-bar grille with the three-pointed star in the centre works nicely with the large foglight openings and is backed up by guards with… Read more
