MAZDA6 2008 – 2017

Mazda6 was launched in Australia in August 2002, it began as a midsize car and grew over the years with the latest models being only a little smaller than Commodore and Falcon. However, it’s significantly narrower than these Aussie icons so is better suited to two adults than three in the back seat. The higher build of Japanese Mazdas over European cars in this class was often the reason buyers told us they chose the ‘6. In this used car review we will begin with the second generation which arrived… Read more

MAZDA CX-8 DIESEL UPGRADES

Mazda has updated its seven-seat Mazda CX-8 Diesel, only nine months after its launch in July 2018. Mazda CX-8 has grown its equipment list and updated styling elements to strengthen its value-packed offering. Visually there are subtle changes to the bumpers. The CX-8 Sport’s 17-inch alloys now have a Grey Metallic finish while the Asaki’s 19-inch alloys are Brilliant Dark. Mazda lagged in providing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in all its models but is rapidly catching up and are now standard in all CX-8 Diesels. Handling is further improved… Read more

MAZDA REVEALS CX-30

Mazda previewed a new model called Mazda CX-30 at the Geneva Motor Show. It’s not the anticipated upgrade of the CX-3 but a new model in its own right. As with the all-new Mazda3 we recently sampled, we are assured the CX-30 is very smooth and quiet inside and that the seats are specially tailored to suit the natural shape of the human body. The CX-30 sits about midway in ride height between a conventional passenger car and an SUV so offers easy ingress and egress. European specifications were the… Read more

2019 MAZDA CX-9 REVIEW

The CX-9 is the flagship of Mazda’s SUV fleet sitting above its successful CX-3 and CX-5 models. The current CX-9 was released in 2016 and was given its latest upgrade in September 2018. With seven seats standard across its range vehicles such as the CX-9 have effectively replaced people movers especially when they come with the choice of front- or rear-wheel. The former contributing to better performance, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions and the latter providing extra traction for towing or mild off-road capability. Five Mazda CX-9 variants are… Read more

FIRST DRIVE: NEW MAZDA3

Mazda3 has been the number one seller in its class to private buyers in Australia for 10 years. And the importer is keen to maintain that tradition. So important is the upcoming new car that Mazda brought a pair of pilot-build cars Downunder to give journalists a brief test drive. In what initially seemed an improbable area the driving was done on and near the seafront in St Kilda, Melbourne. Wayne Watson, Mazda Australia’s Manager Engineering & Compliance rode in the passenger seat and explained these roads are considered to… Read more

MAZDA MX-5 CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Mazda Motor Corporation surprised the motoring world at the Chicago Auto Show, on February 9, 1989 when it unveiled its cute little MX-5 open top sportscar. Until that day the general feeling had been that safety regulations meant that it was probably impossible to ever build open top cars again. Mazda MX-5 proved them wrong and today it’s all but impossible to find an auto maker that doesn’t have open top models in their range. At the Chicago Auto Show, on February 9, 2019 Mazda Motor Corporation unveiled a 30th… Read more

MX-5 BACK ON TRACK TO MUCH-LOVED TRADITION

Almost a year ago I accused the MX-5 of ‘going soft’, when I wrote, “the Mazda, born in 1989 in the tradition of the compact British cloth-top convertibles of the post-war era. “The latest (iteration) to appear is the MX-5 RF (for retractable fastback), a sleek fastback with a smooth line joining the roof to the rear of the car – a far cry from the pared-back proportions of the original MX-5.” Maybe someone back at Mazda HQ was listening because the latest version of the best-selling roadster has been… Read more

MAGNIFICENT ‘SEVEN’ FROM MAZDA

To most people ‘affordable luxury’ in a vehicle would seem as far out of reach as a winning lottery ticket. However, there are those who are fortunate enough to know the feeling of it. Enough, indeed, for Mazda to cater for these lucky folks with its luxury CX-9. Now, the importer has just landed a super-luxury version of the CX-9, the Azami LE, Down Under. What’s more, the new seven-seat ‘palace’ on wheels will set back its buyer a mere $1500 – petty cash – over the existing Azami range-topper…. Read more

MAZDA INTRODUCES UPMARKET CX-3 AKARI LE

JUST ENOUGH CHANGE TO KEEP CX-5 FANS INTERESTED

Mazda, who presented us in 2012 with a CX-5 package that was to become Australia’s most popular sports utility vehicle, has no intention of letting the top spot go, recently upgrading the mid-size wagon. The 2.2-litre diesel engine has been given a power and torque boost while the 2.5-litre petrol unit has adopted cylinder deactivation to reduce fuel consumption at steady speeds. Other updates to the petrol engine range have accounted for a 1 Nm increase in torque for the 2.5-litre variant, and a 1 kW increase in power for… Read more
