MAZDA3 2009 – 2016

2011 Mazda3 SP25

Mazda3 first went on sale in Australia in April 2004, replacing the Mazda 323. A second generation was launched here in April 2009. We will begin our used car feature with that model as it’s significantly larger and more sophisticated than its honourable ancestors. Sales were strong from the start and the gen-two was frequently at or close to the top in the overall sales race as buyers moved away from larger cars. This means that there are plenty on offer in the used car scene. Take your time, do… Read more

From pollies to TV celebs to eating-out spots, popularity polls are, well, as popular as ever. The same could be said for automobiles, with cars of the year of all hues coming out of the woodwork at this time. Mazda’s CX-5 SUV is sitting high in the sales race. Launched in 2012 as Mazda’s first new-generation model featuring Kodo design – the Soul of Motion – and Skyactiv Technology, the Next-Gen CX-5, the second generation, Mazda says, refines every aspect of the company’s current technology and design. MAZDA BT-50 STAYS THE CUP COURSE LIKE TRUE THOROUGHBRED

Twelve months ago, for me the south-western Queensland town of Birdsville was an island of disappointment in a sea of despair, my being in a group of late scratchings for a proposed run to the annual Birdsville Races. The iconic town was completely cut off by road after a deluge of unprecedented proportions just as a group of motoring media, me included, was about to drive the track there in Mazda BT-50 utes. Under starter’s orders: To their credit, the folk at Mazda this month came up trumps and we… Read more

MAZDA CX-9 HAS SIGNIFICANT UPDATES

Twelve months after its launch in Australia the Mazda CX-9 received important dynamic, safety and comfort upgrades. Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels have been improved to provide a more relaxing experience, something that’s pretty important if you and six other are making a long trip. Changes include increasing the thickness of the noise-absorbing material on the underside of the headliner and adding some to the back of the boot side trim. Higher density fibre is used in the floor mats. The powered driver’s seat now has a tilt function… Read more

MAZDA CX-3 BEETLES AROUND WITH THE BEST

If cars were creatures, the Mazda CX-3 would be a lady beetle with its distinct shape and stand-out colouring, buzzing around lush green meadows or summer gardens in full bloom. However, forget the bucolic backdrop, the pretty little sports utility vehicle is most at home in bustling urban centres. So much so that the ‘townie’ has become a market leader since it first came to Australia in March 2015. Following in the tracks of the Mazda2 light car, addition of i-Activsense safety technology makes the latest CX-3 update the first… Read more

2017 MAZDA CX-5 TOURING REVIEW

Mazda CX-5 has been a hit in Australia since it arrived here just over five years ago. Now the second generation has been introduced. It features interesting style, improvements to the powertrains and uprated technology. A new Touring model has been added to the CX-5 range. Sitting between the Maxx Sport and CX-5 GT, the new Touring was our test vehicle as Mazda was keen to get us into one to promote it. And thus increase its sales from the already healthy figure of over 115,000 CX-5s sold to date…. Read more

MAZDA’S LONG AUSTRALIAN HISTORY

Who would have thought of a six-cylinder small car? Mazda did (1991)

Mazda Australia is proud of the fact that its Mazda3 is chosen by more Australians than any other car. Pointing out that while Toyota Corolla sometimes outsells the Mazda3 overall, many Corollas are bought by company fleets. But when buyers make their own choices more go for the Mazda3. Splitting hairs? Perhaps, but it is certainly a valid point that given a choice, the ‘3 is number 1. Mazda3 began its life as Mazda 323 just on 40 years ago and to celebrate its 40th anniversary Mazda invited a select… Read more

BT-50 MAINTAINS STRONG MAZDA CHARACTER

We might have seen the last of the Mazda BT-50 as we know it because Mazda is about to get together with Isuzu to produce their next generation pickup trucks. Isuzu already makes Mazda trucks for the Japanese market, now it is going worldwide. The current BT-50 shares many components with the Ford Ranger and much of the design was carried out by Australians. When the BT-50 was launched in 2011, Mazda went down a new track, creating a utility with the personality of a passenger car – well, sort… Read more

2017 MAZDA6 REVIEW

Who can pass on value for money? The idea that we are getting a bargain is what makes us drive ten extra kilometres for cheaper fuel, or add yet another two-for-one item to the shopping trolley. It is also how I justify that new shoe purchase to my husband. And the dress and the bag… That’s what Mazda is hoping will boost sales of its mid-sized sedan – presenting buyers with a premium proposition for an affordable outlay. To that end, the new Mazda6 has been packed with more technology,… Read more
