HYUNDAI ACCENT 2011 – 2019

Hyundai Accent was a popular seller in Australia from July 2011 onwards when the fourth generation was launched. It had been reasonably well made prior to then, but real improvements in quality were made at that time as the Koreans were rapidly becoming known for the excellent way their cars were being made. Hyundai was smart enough to do its research of the Australian market and realised that drivers in this country are keen on the way their cars handle. So the Accent, and other Hyundais, has Australian-developed suspension tuning…. Read more

GRANDEUR MAKES IT LUCKY SEVEN

Hyundai has unveiled a bold new seventh-generation Grandeur. You remember the Grandeur, right? It was the company’s first foray into the luxury market here in Australia. Launched in 1999, it met with mixed reviews, let down mainly by its incredibly soft, floaty American-style suspension. You have to remember that back then Hyundai did not enjoy anywhere near the same status as it does now. The launch follows close on the heels of last year’s Heritage Series Grandeur, a reinterpretation of the first 1986 model, with an all-electric car drivetrain. The… Read more

IONIQ TRICKS

The gloves have come off with a warning that Hyundai wants to build the EV with the longest range in the world. This follows news the company’s forthcoming Ioniq 6 electrified streamliner will have an impressive range of 614km (WLTP). It’s not quite the best in Australia, but not far off. Ioniq 6 is no high-riding SUV, rather an extremely long, low curvaceous sedan with inherent aerodynamic advantages. In fact, with a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd, it’s even slipperier and more aerodynamic than the $300K plus Mercedes-AMG EQS 35… Read more

KONA N: SUV COVERS NEW GROUND

It appears the ‘go-faster’ guys and gals at Hyundai cannot keep their hands off the company’s product. Following the performance upgrade to the i30 and i20, most recent model to get a booster jab in the arm is the most unlikely – the Kona sports utility vehicle. With 73 corners covering 20.8 kilometres of tarmac, with… Read more

‘N LAYS THE TRACK FROM SPORT TO STREET

In motoring terms, the letter ‘N’ mostly stands for ‘neutral’ (aka going nowhere). But in the case of the Hyundai i20 N, nothing could be farther from the truth. The maker has been spruiking the compact as bringing the DNA of its World Rally champion to the street as a daily driver. And there is little evidence to seriously doubt this. Powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine, mated with six-speed manual transmission, maximum power of 150 kW is enough to fire the hot hatch from zero to… Read more

HYUNDAI KONA HIGHLANDER ELECTRIC

Korean car maker Hyundai is very serious about being at the forefront of the vehicle design. It produces a variety of sizes, with the Kona being the second smallest of them. It’s also very serious about minimising the amount of greenhouse gases being sent into the atmosphere. Hence a range of electric vehicles, both pure electric and petrol / electric hybrids. STYLING Kona Highlander has a closed front which immediately lets people know this is an electric vehicle, not one powered by petrol or diesel. At the lower part of… Read more
