2019 FORD FOCUS: FIRST DETAILS

Ford Australia has provided us with detailed information on the German-made Focus that’s due here at a date yet to be announced, but probably late this year. New Ford Focus will be the first vehicle built on company’s C2 global platform, making for greater body strength with less weight. Styling gives it a low and sleek look, with a huge front grille and a slick tail obviously aimed at low aero drag. It certainly moves away from the somewhat bland shape of previous Focuses. Body types are sedan, five-door hatchback… Read more

FORD MUSTANG BULLITT SPECIAL EDITION

After some fear it may not make it Downunder, Ford Australia has confirmed the Mustang Bullitt special edition is on its way. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Steve McQueen film of that name, the Bullitt will be sold in strictly limited numbers through Ford dealers in Australia. There’s every chance you’ve already seen the movie, but just in case. It features what is arguably the most legendary car chase in cinematic history. The 10-minute sequence in the Warner Bros. film follows Steve McQueen at the wheel of a… Read more

FORD FALCON 2002 – 2015

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint

Used Ford Falcons have long been favourites on the used car scene, especially with those living in the great Aussie bush. They are ruggedly built, seem to last forever if driven and serviced correctly, and soak up rough and ready backroads and dirt tracks much better than overpriced machines from Germany and the UK. Most Falcons are four-door sedans, station wagons and utes. Two-door hardtops and panel vans were also built back in the old days that are beyond the scope of this article. Ford Falcons have seating for… Read more

ADVANCED INFO: FORD RANGER RAPTOR

Sales of four-door pickup trucks continue to soar in Australia, so Ford, one of the big movers in the scene has revealed further details of the high-performance Ranger Raptor that’s coming to Australia later in the year. Designed by the Ford Performance team the Raptor is aimed at the enthusiast off-roader. It has increased ride height, wider track and steeper approach and departure angles aimed at extreme off-road capability. An all-new Watt’s linkage rear suspension with coil-over rear springs helps ensure rear axle lateral stability. Fox Racing Shox shock absorbers… Read more

THE FASTEST MUSTANG EVER

Ford Mustang is all about performance – and for the 2018 edition Ford is offering even more of it. Tagging it quite simply as ‘The Fastest Mustang Ever.’ The 5.0-litre V8 engine has been thoroughly reworked and now develops 450 horsepower (339 kW). This power increase has been achieved with the first application of Ford’s dual-fuel, high-pressure direct-injection and low-pressure port fuel injection. The result is solid low-end torque, high-rpm power, and improved fuel efficiency. Peak torque is now 556 Nm. For obvious reasons the V8 has been the big… Read more

2018 FORD ECOSPORT UPGRADES

The Ford EcoSport is the smallest vehicle in the company SUV range. Clever marketing means it has been restyled to tie in with the shape of its larger brothers, the Escape and Everest, as well as the big Endura which is coming in 2018. Pretty well everything forward of the windscreen looks different, with a sculpted bonnet featuring a central ‘power’ bulge a large trapezoidal grille and interesting angular headlights and foglight surrounds. EcoSport’s rear bumper and taillight designs have also received the sculpted look. Three colours have been added… Read more

ADVANCE INFO ON FORD ENDURA

Australian 2019 Ford Endura is based on the American Ford Edge of 2017

Many consider the Ford Territory was the best Ford ever designed and built in Australia, bar none. Sadly it disappeared when Ford Australia pulled up stumps. Ford Territory’s replacement has finally been announced and it’s called Ford Endura – which Ford tells us is short for endurance. Details are sketchy at this stage, as is the date it will arrive, other than that it will be sometime late in 2018. The fact that Holden is about to introduce its new Equinox SUV probably tells us why an Endura press release… Read more

FORD ECOSPORT 2013 – 2017

Ford EcoSport is a small SUV built on the underpinnings of the Fiesta, but with a taller body, significantly more ground clearance and fascinating styling. Unlike some in this ever-expanding class no EcoSports are offered with all-wheel drive. EcoSport features bold wheelarches, 4WD-type sill protection and a high window line. Interestingly, there are traces of the Australian-designed Ford Territory in the shape of the wraparound rear window styling. Bold styling continues inside the cabin, with clever shapes for the centre console area and the binnacle of the instrument panel. Cost… Read more

FORD EVEREST IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF AUSSIE KNOW-HOW

Ford Everest is a big, rugged 4WD / SUV that’s been around in other countries since 2003 but didn’t arrive in Australia until the release of the third generation model in late 2015. Although it’s fully imported from Thailand it is an important model for Ford Australia as the company moves away from vehicle production while retaining local employment by providing technical input through its research and development investment. Although the arrival of Ford Everest almost dove-tailed with the departure of the popular Territory the two vehicles are quite different…. Read more
