ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA 2011 – 2020

Say “Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili Romeo Giulietta” with an Italian accent and you will understand why lovers of all things Italian like driving cars with a plenty of verve. (In case you haven’t worked it you for yourself Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili is what Alfa stands for!) ALFA ROMEO GIULIA VELOCE

Demand for mid-sized sedans has been declining steadily in recent years as more and more buyers are switching to the more functional SUVs. But if you want some pizzaz in your life, love driving and don’t need to carry lots of stuff in the back then the Alfa Romeo Veloce is well worth considering. There are currently three models in the Giulia range: Ti, Veloce and Quadrifoglio as well as a limited-edition version of the Quadrifoglio called 100th Anniversary to commemorate the first use of that badge in the 1923… Read more

ALFA ROMEO TONALE TI

Right now, this is your cheapest ticket into the glamorous, alluring world of the Italian marque Alfa Romeo. The Tonale is a small SUV that is available at the moment only as a fuel-saving hybrid, which could be a real bonus depending on your perspective. Some drivers may hunger for something a bit spicier, say the larger more powerful 2.0-litre turbo from Stelvio. Named after a mountain pass in Northern Italy, Tonale sits on the same platform as the Jeep Compass and is a little brother to the mid-sized Stelvio,… Read more

ALFA ADDS A PHEV TO ITS TONALE RANGE

Alfa Romeo has added a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of its Tonale small SUV to the hybrid variants that arrived here last year. ALFA ROMEO GIULIA QUADRIFOGLIO

Alfa Romeo Giulia is a stylish Italian sports sedan built on a rear-drive platform and designed to tackle the market segment currently dominated by the premium European brands. Although the name Giulia (pronounced Julia) was around in the 1960s and early 1970s it didn’t re-emerge until 2015 when, to the delight of Alfistis everywhere, the company broke away from using the bland numeric names 156 and 159 and returned to such a distinctively Italian one. There are five models in the Giulia range: Ti, Veloce, Quadrifoglio, GTA and GTAm. There’s… Read more

ALFA ROMEO STELVIO QUADRIFOGLIO

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio or QF for short is one of the quickest and most desirable SUVs that money can buy. At one time it held the lap record for the Nurburgring in Germany and to this day still rates as one of the five fastest SUVs to lap the 20.8km circuit. Them’s bragging rights, but the bark from the twin-turbo V6, which exits the rear of the car via a set of four gaping tailpipes is enough to sell the car by itself. Stelvio QF is the Alfa… Read more

ALFA ROMEO MITO 2009 – 2016

The Alfa Romeo MiTo is a very Italian sporty three-door hatchback that has excellent styling, inside and out. It was overpriced when introduced here in July 2009 so sales were very slow. Though prices were reduced several times the damage had been done and sales didn’t really pick up. So, it was withdrawn from sale here early in 2016. Though it’s sold as a three-door hatch, MiTo’s interior is more coupe like in that it’s rather tight inside. The front seats have good legroom but some people may find headroom… Read more

ALFA ROMEO GIULIA VELOCE

The number of sports sedans available to Aussie drivers continues to shrink. Ford and Holden’s offerings are no more and the Chrysler 300 is over and out too. That leaves the Germans, the Genesis G70 and maybe the Lexus IS350 F-Sport — and of course Alfa Romeo Giulia. Who could forget the Giulia, the car and platform with the very future of the storied brand riding on its elegant back. If there’s one thing the Italians know how to do and do well, it’s design and build great- looking cars… Read more

ALFA ROMEO P3

Vittorio Jano designed a number of classic Grand Prix cars for Alfa and produced the dual- purpose sports and Grand Prix 2.3-litre Tipo 8C in 1931. In its sportscar form this car was particularly successful winning four Le Mans 24-hour races over the period 1931-1934. Following the 8C, a version with higher supercharger boost was produced which initially was to be named Monza after its first Grand Prix victory at that circuit in May 1931. However, Maserati and Bugatti had cars which proved they were capable of beating the Alfa… Read more
