2019 MITSUBISHI TRITON

Mitsubishi_Triton_frontA couple of months back Mitsubishi Australia gave us information on what is virtually an all-new Triton. Now the Japanese maker has provided us with pricing. At a date yet to be announced in January 2019 the media launch will be held, probably in Tasmania. In the meantime we have had the chance to sit in the Triton and crawl over and under it,

Triton has a huge front face using the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield design. While it has been used in others in the Mitsubishi range, this shape works particularly well in a tough vehicle like the Triton.

The angular lines and high bonnet are complemented by beefy bumpers and strongly- shaped lights. The sides incorporate extended wheelarch flares that are built into the body rather than added to it.

Inside, Triton has been given a higher quality look to appeal to private buyers who are flocking to pickups in droves. There are soft pad materials with stitching on the console, armrests and parking brake.

The interior is spacious, with comfortable front seats – or at least comfortable during the five minutes we got sit inside. We will attend the Triton launch in January and come up with a full report immediately afterwards.

Mitsubishi Triton continues to have ladder-type frame and the cabin that sits on it is strong and capable to taking a lot of the hurt out of a crash. As before there are cab-chassis, single-cab, extended-cab and dual-cab bodies.

To avoid crashes Triton has class-leading advanced active safety and driver assistance systems.

Triton will continue to use a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine. Transmissions, manual and automatic will have six forward gears. Drive will be taken to the rear wheels only, or to all four wheels.

New Triton 4WD models are fitted with either Mitsubishi’s Super-Select 4WD, or Easy-Select 4WD. Both 4WD systems use a new Off-road Mode which has Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand And Rock (in 4LLc only) settings.

Braking has been improved with the fitment of larger front discs and calliper pistons. Similarly there are comfort-enhancing changes by way of larger rear dampers which contain more damping oil.
